Description:
At Washburn-McReavy, every interaction is an opportunity to offer comfort, respect, and support. This position is a cornerstone of our operations, as Receptionists are often the first people families and visitors encounter—by phone or in person—during some of the most sensitive moments in their lives. You help set the tone for their entire experience with us. Your professionalism, care, and attention to detail ensure that every visit reflects the dignity and compassion our company has upheld since 1857.
This is a part-time position at our Crystal location, scheduled every Wednesday and Thursday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., and every other weekend (Saturday 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. and Sunday 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.), for a total of 46 hours every two weeks. Additional evening or weekend opportunities may arise occasionally for visitations and services, though not on a set schedule.
As a Receptionist, you will:
- Answer and process phone calls promptly and professionally
- Greet visitors with warmth and compassion
- Provide administrative support, including maintaining the chapel calendar, managing schedules, performing data entry, updating records, and processing payments
- Assist with preparing for services and visitations—setting up flowers, memorial books, and other service items—and ensuring the facility is tidy, organized, and welcoming
- Support rotating Funeral Directors and on-site staff
This role requires exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, a professional and empathetic demeanor, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively. You must be comfortable with technology, including managing email and operating standard office equipment. Much of your shift will involve working with our database, so attention to detail and accuracy are essential. Confidentiality and respect for the privacy of the families we serve are paramount.
Appearance and Attire:
As a traditional funeral service organization, we maintain professional appearance standards consistent with the dignity of our work. Required attire is a solid navy-blue business suit with a white dress shirt or blouse and polished navy or black dress shoes. Staff may submit receipts for suit reimbursement (up to $125 annually). A company-issued necktie is provided for those who wear one. Hosiery, socks, and accessories must be professional, coordinated, and appropriate. All clothing, jewelry, facial hair, and hairstyles must be neat, clean, and professional. Visible tattoos, non-traditional hair colors or styles, and multiple facial piercings are not permitted, except for one small nose stud. Ear gauges and multiple ear piercings are not considered appropriate for this role. We are happy to discuss accommodations for cultural or religious attire to ensure inclusivity.
Qualifications:
- Exceptional verbal and written communication
- Courteous, professional telephone manner
- Computer and data entry proficiency
- Consistent attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
