Robert Eugene Cavins

Robert E. Cavins was born in Evansville, Indiana, on November 4, 1935. His parents, Clinton and Marie, were simple people with deep moral and ethical principles. Bob worked with his dad as a surveyor, when in Iowa, he met Patricia (Trish) Crane, and they married on May 12, 1956. Bob received his BA degree and later his Master's and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Iowa State in Ames, Iowa, where they resided and had their first two children, Jeff and Jayne. After graduating from college, the Cavins moved to Minnesota, where Bob worked at Control Data in Bloomington, MN. Much of Bob's employment dealt with microchips and lasers and was of a top-secret nature. While living in Bloomington, their third child, Leslie, was born. Bob later became Vice President of Honeywell. He then went on to work at E.F. Johnson and FSI International. In his retirement, he enjoyed working in the electrical department at Home Depot. Bob's past employees often commented that he was the kindest and fairest manager they had ever worked for, and that he always helped people advance in their fields. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Marie Cavins, and his brothers, Daniel (Marda) Cavins and James (Hilda) Cavins. He is survived by his wife Trish; children Jeff (Emily) Cavins, Jayne Cavins, and Leslie Cavins; grandchildren Carly (Patrick) Felicetta, Jaki Cavins, and Toni Cavins; Great-grandchildren Dominic, Francesco, and Fiona Felicetta. Bob's interests included building projects around the home. He enjoyed making sourdough bread, fishing and golf. He and Trish belonged to a motorhome club and traveled with grandchildren around the country. Bob enjoyed flying airplanes for a number of years. He also loved math and taught advanced math at the University of Minnesota and tutored. He enjoyed spending time with Jack the family dog. His wife, Trish, was always his top priority, just behind his Catholic faith. In addition to being a lector, Bob enjoyed his Cursillo friends at St. Hubert's in Chanhassen. He was a regular visitor to the adoration chapel. Bob quietly passed away at home, surrounded by family.
