W. Wayne "Bud" Sailors

Sailors, W. Wayne "Bud" age 87, of Edina, was born on July 22, 1926, in Sturgis, Michigan, as the only child of Alice & Willis Sailors. He passed away on June 26, 2014, after a long illness. Bud is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Jane; son Brad (Mary) Sailors and daughter Marcia (Michael) Russell; grandchildren: Christopher (Julie) Sailors, Sarah (Jesse) Maistrovich, Katherine Sailors, Ryan (Missy) Russell, and Molly Russell; Great grandchildren: Macklin Sailors and Emma Maistrovich. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Megan Vasey Russell, 6, in 1990. Bud married the former Mary Jane Loomis on June 26, 1948, having met her in 5th grade. He always said, he would have married her then, if it were up to him. Throughout his high school years, Bud led a dance band on almost every weekend, playing the alto sax and singing current songs of the era. Following graduation from Sturgis High School, where he was class president, Bud joined the Merchant Marine Academy. Upon his return, Bud attended the University of Michigan where he studied Business, and was lead sax in the famous University of Michigan Marching Band. He was also a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. After completing a Business Degree in 1949, he attended and graduated from the General Motors Institute. Bud spent over 50 years in sales and management. He began in music and car sales, then worked for Remington Rand, before joining Warner Industrial Hardware, a company he went on to purchase and run as President from 1987 to 1992. One of his proudest accomplishments was the creation of an ESOP at Warner's, for his employees. Bud was a long time member of Mt. Olivet Church and an active board member for Minneapolis Children's Hospital and Norwest Bank. He loved working on his computer and was a life long Chicago Cubs fan. On a personal side, Bud was extremely proud of his family and their extended families, with whom he loved spending time. Of his own, early years, Bud said playing the sax and leading his dance band was truly one of his happiest memories. Service 11 am June 30, 2014 at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, 50th and Knox Ave. S., Mpls. Visitation one hour prior at the church. Private Interment Lakewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, or to Mt. Olivet Church.
