Timothy Earl Benson

In loving memory of Timothy Benson, who passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026 at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN, after a period of declining health. Timothy was born on August 8, 1939, in Minneapolis, MN and was the son of Earl and Florence Benson, who have gone before him, along with his brother Jeff. Other family members who have gone before him include his first wife Beverly O'Brien, his son Mark, his brother-in-law Duane Vettling, and his stepchildren, Mark Krause and Denise Krause. Timothy was a graduate of St. Louis Park High School, class of 1957. Tim joined the U.S. Navy, in January 1958 and was stationed in Alameda, CA for 4 years. His professional career started at Bergen and Farnam, a family-run building material company, and was followed by 16 years in sales at Ochs Brick. Beyond his professional life, Timothy was a devout Christian and was most recently an active member of the Cedar Valley Church in Bloomington, MN. He also served on the board of the townhome association for many years where he and Ardes lived in Eden Prairie. In addition, he was a volunteer at Fairview Hospital for many years. Timothy found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He and Ardes enjoyed traveling. He also cherished fishing and hunting trips with friends. He was also known for his love of golf and watching Minnesota sports on television. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ardes Benson, his children Todd (Brenda), Andy, Steve, and Kelly Davis (Bob), grandchild Derek Benson, stepchildren Kevin Krause and Jeff Krause, step-grandchildren Derek Krause (Sabrina), Phil Krause, Mike Krause, and Raymond Krause, and many step-great-grandchildren, sister Barb Waller, and nieces/nephews Amy Zweber, Kim Luckart (Phil), and Eric Vettling as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews. His family was his greatest joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them. A celebration of Timothy's life will be held on August 26, 2026, at Washburn McReavy Funeral Chapel located at 2300 W. Old Shakopee Road, Bloomington, MN 55431. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a life well-lived. Visitation starts at 9am, followed by the funeral service at 10am and luncheon at 11am. Interment will occur at 1:30pm at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a charity of your choice, in honor of Timothy's memory. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at the MN Masonic Home, the Veterans Home in Minneapolis and the VA Medical Center for their compassionate care during Timothy's final years.
