Thomas Henry Igel

Thomas H. "Tom" Igel, age 86 of Edina, MN passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025. Tom was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to so many. He was born in Minneapolis on March 11, 1939 to Harry and Mary Inez (Neary) Igel. Tom attended St. Thomas the Apostle grade school, De La Salle High School, and The College of St. Thomas. He married his beautiful wife, Patti, in 1964, and they created a wonderful life together filled with family, friends, travel and time spent at the cabin. Tom began his career in teaching and coaching which had a lasting impact throughout his life. His entrepreneurial spirit drove him to start a sporting goods business where he found his love for sales. Ultimately, he took great pride and satisfaction in The T. H. Igel Company, the manufacturers rep agency that he led for four decades. During this time he created many strong friendships with his team and clients. Tom had a passion for the outdoors and a special appreciation for birds and nature. He immersed himself in his love for fishing and hunting. Most of all, Tom treasured time with Patti, his children and grandchildren. Family meant the world to him. He was infamous for his storytelling. If he wasn't joking around or giving you a hard time, he was teaching you a life lesson. Tom dedicated his life to the people he loved. He was always welcoming, caring and bringing people together. Tom always had a clever word or phrase to share. If he had a message for you today, it would be, "Keep Smiling". Tom was proceeded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Patti, and his parents Harry and Mary Inez. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Bill Igel and Jim Igel (late Betti). Tom is survived by his four children, Mary (Steve) Trudell, Bill (Jamie) Igel, Maureen (Mike) Shea and Dan Igel. His nine grandchildren, Megan, Jack (Magen), Kate, Oscar, Maggie, Patrick, Flynn, Charlie and George. He is also survived by four of his siblings, Dick (Missy) Igel, Ann (Dick) Olson, Mary Alice (late Mike) Lyons, Rita (Mike) Moore and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Tom always cherished spending time with his large and loving family. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at 11:00am at Christ The King Church 5029 Zenith Ave S Minneapolis MN 55410 . Visitation starting at 9:30am prior to Mass at the Church. Private Interment Gethsemane Cemetery. Memorials preferred to donor's choice.
