Sandra Jean Laukkanen

Sandra Jean Laukkanen, 75, of Bloomington, MN, passed away peacefully February 21, 2018. Family and friends will remember Sandy’s loyal heart, her enthusiasm for life, and her spunk. Sandy was born October 23, 1942, in St. Paul, MN, the daughter of William and Arlene Becker. She was a loving sister to her brother Bill and sister Margaret. A proud eastsider, she was a member of Arlington Hills Lutheran Church and attended Johnson High School where she graduated in 1960. It was in St. Paul that she would form numerous friendships that would last a lifetime. It didn’t matter where Sandy was living or where she was, she seemed to meet people wherever she went, and once a friend, always a friend. Shortly after graduating from high school, she met her husband of 56 years, Don. Together they had four children. As a family they would spend a lot of time together, whether it was outside raking leaves or shoveling snow or heading up to Canada on their yearly summer vacation. Years later, once their children were grown, Don and Sandy would spend their summers in Hayward, WI, and winters in Casa Grande, AZ. Sandy and Don would often take weekend trips to polka festivals where she loved to dance and chat with other festival -goers. It was never hard to know what Sandy was thinking or feeling, if she didn’t tell you, her face often would. She was honest and passionate about what she believed in and for those that she loved. Anyone who knew her, knew she had their back. She was grateful for her many friends and family. She was loyal to and supportive of her loving husband Don and so thankful for how well he took care of her, especially in her latter years. She was a caring and concerned mother to her children and loved her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed. Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, William and Arlene Becker, and brother Bill Becker. She is survived by her loving husband Donald Laukkanen; children Laura Laukkanen (Doug Matson), Ann (Pat) Comer, Steve Laukkanen and Tom (Emily) Laukkanen; grandchildren Tony and Andy Comer, Amanda Matson and Ruby Laukkanen; and sister Margaret (Dave) Schmidt. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 2, 11 AM, with a visitation one hour prior to service at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 1701 W. Old Shakopee Rd., Bloomington.
