Sandra Jean (Smith) Haberkorn

Haberkorn, Sandra Jean (Smith) age 73, of Excelsior, Minnesota, went home to heaven on October 7, 2016, four weeks after a stroke. Sandy was born on January 28, 1943 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She graduated from Richfield High School in 1960 and from the University of Minnesota in 1964 with a major in Home Economics. On June 11, 1971, Sandy married Ron Haberkorn. In 1980, Sandy and Ron co-founded NOREX, Inc, a successful IT networking company, located in Prior Lake. Sandy served on the NOREX Board of Directors until the time of her death. Sandy and Ron enjoyed traveling to many places around the world, including several trips with their kids and grandkids. They also loved spending winters in Cortez, Florida. Sandy was an excellent cook and hostess. Everyone looked forward to picnics at the Haberkorn home! Ever since childhood, Sandy had a passion for horses and dogs. It makes us smile to know that Sandy is able to gallop on her beloved horses in the green fields of heaven and hug her sweet dogs again. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the Methodist Hospital hospice team and the staff at Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice Home for their care of Sandy. Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon & Eva (Anderson) Smith. She is survived by husband, Ron Haberkorn; daughters, Deb (Steve) Kind, Pam (John) Humphrey, Stacey (Ken) Hormann, and Amy (Chad) Dill; grandchildren, Allie Humphrey, Brita (John) Becker, Katy Humphrey, Maren Kind, Jordan (Miranda) Sorenson, Joseph Sorenson, Rachel Dill, Andy Dill, and Emma Dill; sister, Marcie (Mike) Holmgren; two great grandchildren; other relatives; many friends; and her dog, Barkley. Wear bright colors and join us for a celebration of Sandy's life at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, 5025 Knox Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55419, on Saturday, October 15, 2016, with burial at Lakewood Cemetery (meet in the church parking lot at 9 am to process to the cemetery), visitation at 10:30 am, and Celebration of Life Service at 11:30 am.
