Robert Charles Tengdin

On November 9, 2025, Robert C. Tengdin ("Bob") of Edina was welcomed into heaven at age 95. Born June 25th, 1930 in Kansas City Mo, to Elmer Theodore Tengdin and Agnes Elizabeth Tengdin. Bob's grandparents emigrated to the United States from Norway and Sweden. He said that he was the product of a mixed marriage. Bob graduated from Westport H.S in 1947, served in the US Air Force from 1949-1950, and received a BA from St. Olaf College in 1952, where he played on the football (quarterback) team, tennis, and ski teams (team captain). Bob stayed active as an alum, and was honored as a Distinguished Alumnus in 2003. In 1952, he joined the Allison-Williams Company, a Minneapolis-based investment bank, where he worked for 70 years until his retirement as Chairman Emeritus in 2022. Bob was involved in many significant financial projects, from Canterbury Downs racetrack financing, the commercial reorganization of Sunflower Electric (western Kansas) to many municipal and commercial financial projects. Bob married Fern Anderson in 1955. They had three sons: David (1956), Douglas (1959), and Daniel John ("DJ", 1964). Fern passed away in 2009, and Bob married Dorothy Halvorson Hanson in 2011 on his 80th birthday. They traveled widely and brought great joy to one another. His many many social, civic, and athletic activities included: Boy Scouts, Svenska Sallskapet, Torske Klubben, Minneapolis Club, American Swedish Institute, Sons of Norway, & Interlachen Country Club, He played competitive tennis, golf and Alpine Masters Ski Racing. In Masters Ski Racing, he won national titles in the USA, Canada, Norway, and Sweden, and placed 2nd in the Masters World Championship in Andorra, Spain. As a member of Interlachen Country Club in Edina (1960-present) he won 11 singles and 8 doubles club championships in tennis. He was inducted into the Minnesota Senior Sports Hall of Fame in 2021 and continued to ski race and play tennis well into his '90s. Bob is pre-deceased by his parents, his first wife Fern, siblings Phyllis (Werner) and John Tengdin, and son DJ. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, his sons David ( Sonja) and Doug (Pam), eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Also by four step children: Mark, Kari (Bernie), Gregg (Maureen), Susan; their eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Memorial Service is Thursday, November 20 at Normandale Lutheran Church, 6100, visitation beginning at 10AM and a Service of Christian Burial and Resurrection at 11AM. Private interment will at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials are preferred to the DJ Tengdin Memorial Endowment at St. Olaf College.
