Robert L. Guinn

Robert "Bob" Leeman Guinn, age 88 of Bloomington, MN, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, at Friendship Village under hospice care due to complications of dementia. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 15, at 2:00 at Friendship Village. Bob was born on August 23, 1937, in Pomona, California to parents Claude and Edith (Goodman) Guinn. He graduated from Colton High School in Colton, CA, in 1955 as the senior class president. In high school he excelled in activities such as music, football, and baseball. After high school he moved, a theme throughout his early life, north to attend Oregon State University in Corvallis, OR. This is where he met his love, Mary K. White. He studied engineering and graduated in 1959. Through an ROTC scholarship, Bob committed to serving in the United States Air Force following college. He proudly served four years, including time stationed in Lubbock, Texas. Bob and Mary married on June 13, 1959. Through nearly 67 years of marriage, they welcomed one son Dave Guinn, and two daughters, Donna Lee and Cheryl Flaagan into this world along with six grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Bob and Mary settled in Minnesota in 1968. He worked as an engineer for various companies, beginning his career in canning/manufacturing with Green Giant in Savage, MN, and retiring in 2000 from Unisys Corporation in Eagan, MN. Bob had a tremendous work ethic and was known as a quiet leader. While happily retired, he filled his time with many trips to faraway lands such as New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, and several European tours. He loved visiting his kids and grandkids, golfing and playing tennis, woodworking and leather working, volunteering at organizations like Bridging and Meals on Wheels, and singing and gardening at church. Bob took immense pride in his three children. He could often be found coaching, volunteering, or cheering them on at their activities, even when the activity was outside his area of expertise. Living far from extended family made their family of five especially close. Family dinners were a nightly tradition, with everyone having their assigned seat at the table. Summers were filled with camping trips, adventures in the Boundary Waters, and cross-country journeys in the pop-up camper to visit family and friends. Through his words and actions, Bob instilled the values of godliness, family, strength, and loyalty in his children, grandchildren, and everyone fortunate enough to know him. If you asked Bob about his most memorable moments beyond raising his family, he would likely share stories of hunting trips with his son Dave and family, whitewater rafting down the Colorado River with his daughter Cheryl and her friends, and fishing adventures throughout Canada and the northern United States with Tim and Donna. As the wannabe golfer he always claimed to be, he also enjoyed the opportunity to serve as an honorary observer inside the ropes at a PGA Tour event, where he walked alongside professional golfers Ernie Els and Tom Lehman. He was a dutiful servant to his wife. He will be remembered by his kids and grandkids by the sweet smell of a tobacco pipe. He was as cool, calm, and collected as they came. Except for that one time their foreign exchange student racked up an $800 long distance phone bill. Bob is survived by his wife, Mary K. Guinn of Bloomington, MN, son David (Diane) Guinn of Zimmerman, MN, daughters Donna (Tim) Lee of Fargo, ND, and Cheryl (Craig) Flaagan of The Villages, FL/Detroit Lakes, MN, cousins Judy Guinn and Sandra Moyles, grandchildren Dustin (Tayler) Guinn, Danye (Tracy) Torson, Deon (Aleesha) Guinn, Heidi (Chris) Horne, Jenna (Grant) Mehring, and Katie (Nate) Hoiness, and 15 great grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Claude and Edith Guinn. The staff, facilities, and residents made Bob's many years in the halls of Friendship Village of Bloomington nothing short of marvelous.
