Richard Anthony Stimmler

Richard Anthony Stimmler Richard, 78, after a long decline in health, passed away May 12, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents Anthony and Ruth and his sisters Janet and Bonnie. He is survived by his wife Priscilla, son Anthony (Kathryn), sister Karen, brother Gerry (Paula), his two granddaughters Chloe and Sadie, and many nieces and nephews and extended family. He was born and raised in Minneapolis, attended the University of Minnesota as a studio art major. He ended up working for and retiring from the City of Minneapolis after being hired out of college for a photography project with the Assessor's oﬃce. He retired after 30 years as the Director of Assessments. Although he excelled at his job, he never stopped creating his art. After retiring, he was able to focus more on his painting. In 2012, he was a finalist in the "Artists" magazine annual art competition. He had paintings exhibited in galleries in San Francisco and Minneapolis. He also loved investing in the stock market. Later in life, he spent many hours of the day studying the financial markets and deciding his next strategy. His investment management also extended to a number of family members. After taking early retirement, he and Priscilla moved to Kona, Hawaii. He loved Hawaii and had taken many a vacation there before making the move. After a few years in Kona, the two made the move back to the mainland, to Fountain Hills, Arizona. They enjoyed desert life for 11 years before returning to Minnesota to enjoy more time with family. Richard was a kind, smart, funny, talented man. He loved spending time with all the many members of both his family and Priscilla's. He will be deeply missed by all. Many thanks go out to all the caregivers that attended to Richard's care over the years. They include the staﬀs at Methodist Hospital, Amira Choice Bloomington, and Park Nicollet Hospice.A celebration of Richard's life will be held Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at 11:00 am at Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel (5000 W. 50th St.) with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Following the celebration, all are invited to a luncheon/open house at Tony and Katy's home.
