Phyllis Awah Chomilo

Phyllis Awah Chomilo of Minneapolis, MN, passed away on October 25, 2025. Phyllis, or Phyl as she affectionately went by, was born on August 31, 1988. Most of her childhood was spent growing up in Eden Prairie and she spent most of her adult life in either Minneapolis or St. Paul. Phyllis' love as a daughter, sister, cousin, and aunt was expressed through her creativity and attention to important details. When she was able to stay connected her brilliant smile and booming laugh would fill rooms with a memorable warmth. Many of her coworkers and friends experienced that warmth, her generous spirit and infectious joy. Her journey through adulthood took her to many different jobs and pursuits. She was an award winning door-to-door knives salesperson, worked in retail for several years. She had a hobby store on Etsy (Phyl Good Jewelry) where she created unique and beautiful jewelry pieces made out of reclaimed bottle caps and can tabs, and eventually found her footing in hospitality. She spent over a dozen years working between Route 47 and NE Moose Bar & Grill, where she proved herself more than a coworker; she became family to her colleagues. People that came across her at work consistently noted her dedication, ready smile and encouraging words lifted spirits during even the busiest shifts. Her creativity continued to shine during this time, organizing one-of-a-kind events complete with themed outfits and prizes, and riding a Harley-Davidson decked out in her own distinctive bling. Outside of work, Phyl had the support of her close friends and the companionship of her dog Maize and cat Owen; as well as a few pet rats that preceded her in death. She is survived by her parents, Frederick and Wanda Chomilo, brothers: Nathan (Jenny), Njoya (Tisha), and Elvis (Rachel), and her nieces and nephews, Joe Perry, Leilani, Nchare and Nji. A private Memorial Service will be held for family and close friends on Thursday, November 6, at 11am at Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapel, 4101 Central Ave. NE. Columbia Heights, Mn. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Animal Humane Society of MN. The family wishes to thank the staff and patrons of NE Moose Bar & Grill for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.
