Mayo Lloyde Reck

It is with a heavy heart that Mayo Reck's family announces his passing on October 30, 2025. Mayo was born in Crookston, MN and was raised on the family farm. He attended school in Mentor, MN from Kindergarten through twelfth grade. While in school he played football, basketball, and played in the school band. After Mentor Public School, he attended Northland Community College and sang in the choir. He graduated with an AA degree. Mayo would have to put further educational pursuits on hold as he was drafted into the army. He was stationed in Sinop, Turkey where he served two years of active duty as an MP. When Mayo came home from the service, he went back to school and attended Moorhead State College. He enjoyed playing flag football in the fall with fellow students. While attending Moorhead State, Mayo met his future wife, Diane, in the fall of 1973. Mayo and Diane married on July 5, 1975, and celebrated their 50th anniversary on July 5, 2025. They started their married life in Mentor, MN on a farm of their own. Mayo grew wheat, barley, oats, and sunflowers. After realizing that it was no longer sustainable to continue farming, they made the move into town. Mayo and Diane had two daughters, Kristy and Heather, who enjoyed living in the cozy town of Mentor. Due to extenuating circumstances, the family made the move to St. Paul, MN in 1986. Mayo found success as a framer and finish trim carpenter until he retired. He also started a finish trim carpentry business with his brother, Milo naming it MR Construction. He did not take a lot of time off when working, but he never missed spending a week at a resort cabin in the summer with his family. Mayo enjoyed fishing and would go out into the boat with his daughters to fish and then with his grandchildren when they came along. Mayo also just enjoyed sitting by the lake enjoying the sound of the water as he read a book or took a nap. When Mayo retired, he and Diane enjoyed traveling together and going on cruises. Mayo did not enjoy being on the water and upon going on their first cruise he stated that he would be wearing his life jacket all week. Mayo found out that cruising was not so bad, and he enjoyed the ability to get ice cream on the deck whenever he wanted it. They traveled to Hawaii, Alaska, the British Isles, different parts of the Caribbean and South America, and the east coast. Mayo also enjoyed reading Westerns and had read all the books written by Louis L'Amour. He also went to the movies and said that no movie experience was complete without pop and popcorn. Mayo spent a lot of time outdoors in his yard no matter what the season. He was very particular about his yard care and spent endless amounts of time battling weeds in the summer and snow in the winter. Mayo also enjoyed decorating the exterior of the house for the holidays. He is survived by his wife Diane (McVey), daughters Kristy and Heather, grandchildren Tyler and Anaya, and pet cat Ayla. Mayo is also survived by his mother Grace, brothers Milt and Milo (Marilee), sister Michelle (Tim) Richard along with several nephews and nieces and their families. He is preceded in death by his father Myron Reck, sister Georgene Corbet, sister Claudia Reck, sister-in-law Sue Reck, and brother-in-law Doug Corbet. We thank family, friends, and neighbors for their continued care and support. We also thank the staff of the Reflections Unit at Village Shores. The family appreciates the care and heart felt compassion that they showed Mayo as well as the activities that he was able to enjoy as a part of the Reflections community. We also thank the staff from Hospice of the Midwest for their support and care of Mayo and his family. Ther will be a private celebration of life and internment at Lakewood Cemetery. Memorials can be sent to Village Shores/ Reflections or Hospice of the Midwest.
