Mary Ellen Radford

Radford, Mary Ellen (Hughes) Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Mary Ellen Radford (Hughes), age 76, passed away December 15, 2020 due to her battle with the movement disorder, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. She is preceded in death by her husband, Phil Radford, and is survived by her children, Alison Moidl (Joe), Jason Radford (Janet) and Michael Radford; her grandchildren, Joey and Peyton Moidl, and Cormac, Cara and Makenna Radford; and her brother, Frank Hughes. Mary Ellen was born on January 21, 1944 in Benson, MN, where she spent her childhood. She graduated from Benson High School in 1962 and Saint Cloud State University in 1966. Upon graduation, she began her career as an elementary school teacher, and continued in various roles including teaching at Normandale Community College, Dakota Technical College, and finally retiring as Education Director with MN Teen Challenge. She was known for her abiding faith in Jesus, sharing His love and her faith with family, friends and neighbors throughout her life. She treasured the verse Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Her love for life extended into a deep love for animals, and we were lucky to have her share that fondness with our family. We loved and cared for dogs, cats, rabbits, birds and hamsters, as well as recused several squirrels, all bringing much joy and laughter to our family. She adored teaching, giving words of encouragement and wisdom, biking around Lake Harriet, visiting antique stores, watching the Superbowl with friends, restoring furniture, reading an abundance of books, decorating for Christmas, rescuing creatures great and small, listening to the Bee Gees while ironing, eating popcorn in the afternoon, celebrating birthdays with balloons, spending special moments with her grandkids and giggling until her sides ached. Her love for traditions and spending time together as a family created beautiful memories that will never be forgotten. She was a loving wife and caregiver to our dad for many years after his stroke. When they both entered the Masonic Home Care Center, she continued to worry over him and ended every visit with a tender kiss goodbye. She lived a wonderful life with purpose, and loved her family, friends and neighbors with a big heart. "Well done, good and faithful servant!" Matthew 25:23. In light of our current situation, we will hold a funeral, burial and memorial for our mom in the future.
