Mary Linvill

Mary Cecilia Linvill age 74, resident of Edina, MN since 1965, passed away Wed., May 15 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital after a brave battle with lymphoma (cancer). Preceded in death by husband, Ralph William Linvill on May 24, 2000. Survived by daughters, Margaret (Maggie) Dolores Linvill, Anne Marie Elizabeth Linvill & fiance James (Jim) Richard Seidel; sisters, Adeline Catherine Dion, Irene Rose Kulig, Louise Elizabeth Desautel, Laura Ann Rose Alkofer; and uncle, Paul Vincent Doyle. Also preceded in death by sisters, Helen Mary Hesch and Dolores Lucy Eben. Mary was born in Buckman, MN in 1927 to Mathias Edward & Mary Agnes Tetiva Hesch. She married Ralph William Linvill August 31, 1963 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Mpls. She graduated from St. Francis High School in Little Falls in 1946. After attaining her x-ray technician certification, she lived in New York City, New Orleans, and San Francisco. In 1960, she returned back to Minneapolis, and worked in various secretarial capacities with the Dept. of Defense. She became a homemaker in 1963 after her marriage to Ralph. An involved and dedicated wife and mother for 38 years, Mary's primary commitment was the well-being, care and happiness of her husband and children. Over the years, she actively supported her husband's and children's vocations. She was a parent and friend to all. In later years, Mary contributed her enormous energy to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Edina, and to local civic activities. She was a member of St. Hilary's Guild, and served as it's President and representativeto the women's council. She was elected to the parish council in Sept. of 1999 and served as a representative of the church to the National Catholic Women's Conference. In 1998, as a result of this conference, she launched the Domestic Abuse Outreach Program offered by St. Patrick's and continued overseeing this program throughout her fight with cancer. Throughout her adult life, she felt a strong civic responsibility and was particularly active at the local level. Most recently, she was involved with her local Republican Party, serving as an alternate delegate in 2000 and elected as a delegate in 2002. An avid traveler, Mary traveled extensively throughout Africa, western and eastern Europe, Asia, Scandinavia, Canada, and the United States. In February 2002, Mary attended the XIX Winter Olympic Games held in Salt Lake City, where she introduced her daughter, Anne and Anne's friends to her love of the Olympic games (Mary had previously attended Olympic games in Atlanta, GA and Nagano, Japan). Prior to her death, she was making plans to attend the games in Athens, Greece in 2004. Her daughter Anne's former employment with Northwest Airlines offered Mary the opportunity to take spontaneous day trips with her girlfriend, Ginny Mulcahy to many interesting locations, most often New York City. Reviewal 4-8 pm Sunday, May 19, with rosary service 4 pm, prayer service and a time of memory sharing 7:30 pm, all at Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel, W. 50th St. & Vernon Ave at Hwy 100. Mass of Christian Burial 11 am Monday, May 20 with reviewal beginning at 10 am at the Church of St. Patrick, Valley View at Gleason Rd., Edina. Following the Mass, all guests are invited to stay for a luncheon which will be served at the church. Interment Lakewood Cemetery. Memorials preferred to St. Patrick's Church, Lymphoma Research Foundation of America, or Poor Clare Monastery, Sauk Rapids. Mary was a woman who lived life to the fullest. She was known for her loving and generous heart and her remarkable zest for life. She profoundly touched the lives of everyone she encountered. She will be greatly missed by all.
