Mary Louise Jacobson

Mary Louise Jacobson, 81, of Richfield, formerly of Highland Park, passed away on March 22, 2020. Preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Margaret Jacobson, and her loving companion, Daryl Jacobs and his son, Brad. Survived by her daughter, Michelle Remeneski (Bob); granddaughter, Madison; the Peterson family (John, Judy, Michelle, Lynnette (Peter, Natalie and Thomas Leuty)) and the Jacobs families of Todd (Kim, Ashley, Kelly, Mya and Shay), Scott (Lisa, Nicole and Tommy) and Cyndi (Abbie and Adam). Mary Lou was born in Granite Falls, MN on May 17, 1938. She graduated from St. Paul Central in 1956 and continued on to receive her degree in nursing from Hamline University in 1960. She later graduated from the University of Washington with a Masters in Nursing and went on to become a Certified Rehabilitation Nurse (CRRN). She loved being a nurse, starting her career at the University of Minnesota in 1960. She worked at San Francisco City and County Hospitals, St. Luke’s Hospital and finally United Hospital, from which she retired. Mary Lou met Daryl Jacobs early in her life when she stayed with his parents in Washington. Later, they were reacquainted and fell in love. Daryl propose to Mary Lou on May 20, 2001. They had nine wonderful years together. Spending some of the winters in Arizona, vacationing at Cass Lake with the Jacob family and cruising the world to such places as Alaska, Panama Canal and Cancun. Mary Lou was loved by her family and an extensive network of friends that she gathered throughout her life. She made friends at all of the hospitals in which she worked and found strength in her circle of friends from both Pilgrim and Mt. Olivet Congregations. Mary Lou enjoyed adventure. She travelled extensively with family and friend throughout the years to places like Italy, Africa, Europe, Hawaii, the Caribbean and Mexico. One highlight was the trip to see the polar bears in Churchill. She skied with her friends Winter Park, Steamboat Springs, Jackson Hole, Vail and Aspen. She camped in the BWCA, Grand Marais and other state parks in Minnesota and Wisconsin. She loved to read and enjoyed going to her book club. She loved her dogs, Shimwa and Kenai. Due to the current circumstances, there was an intimate funeral service held on March 26, 2020. We have all been affected by not being able to gather together at this time to celebrate her life. Mary Lou liked to celebrate her birthday for several weeks to months, so we will honor that ritual during this time. The family fully intends to plan a service to celebrate her life with all of her family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hamline University, Mt.
