Marilyn Jackson Robinson

Marilyn Robinson (née Jackson) passed away at home on March 29, 2023, after a brief illness. She was born November 16, 1953, in Minneapolis, MN, and was preceded in death by her parents Francois and Don Jackson. She is survived by her sister Susan, her beloved life partner of over 30 years, Daniel Spiegel, and many other family members and friends. Marilyn graduated in 1975 from Bethel College in Minnesota with a degree in social work. After which she began working at an adolescent shelter in St. Paul, MN. She then moved to Chicago and attended Roosevelt University attaining a degree in paralegal studies. Eventually, Marilyn made her way back to Minnesota where she worked as a state senior fraud investigator for the Department of Commerce for nearly 20 years. She retired in 1999 and held the title of certified fraud examiner. As a child Marilyn was an avid reader. She loved mystery stories and followed along with the adventures of Nancy Drew. She always dreamed of being a writer. Even in recent years childhood friends would remember Marilyn talking about wanting to write mysteries when she was in junior high. As Marilyn would frequently say, "I think I always had the writing bug." Some of the intriguing cases that Marilyn worked as an investigator only fueled her passion for writing. She began crafting mystery stories based on her experiences. It was after her retirement that Marilyn's literary career really took off. Writing under the pen name, Marilyn Jax, she went on to author five national and international award-winning mystery novels. Inspired by her work, as well as her travels around the world, Marilyn's novels follow beloved protagonist Claire Caswell, and her partner Gaston "Guy" Lombard, on their many thrilling cases of murder, adventure, and revenge. Marilyn was generous with her time and resources, giving selflessly to so many. As a well-known mystery author, she conducted writing seminars and mentored aspiring mystery writers, helping them to be successful in the industry. Marilyn also lived with Type 1 diabetes and gave her time to counseling people living with the condition. With her magnetic personality and infectious laugh Marilyn had quite a community around her. She took so much joy in everything she did and in the loved ones she held so closely. She was a friend, a support, and a mentor, and our lives have been deeply touched and enriched because of her. Marilyn was a woman of faith who loved her Lord and her family and friends. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by many. Marilyn will be interred at Lakewood Cemetery in a private burial ceremony. If you wish, memorials can be made in Marilyn's honor to the Marilyn J. Robinson Fund at the St. Paul & Minnesota Foundation. This money will be used for diabetes and organ transplant research.
