Lois Ruth Svenstad

On Sunday, May 19, 2019, after spending the morning worshiping in church and Sunday School at Trinity Baptist Church, in Mesa, AZ, Lois Ruth Svenstad went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 83. Lois was born on September 12, 1935, in Wahkon, MN, to Gustaf and Elsie (Bastyr) Rein. She graduated from South High in 1953. On July 12, 1955, she married Rene Leon Svenstad. They raised three daughters, Shelly, Micki, and Lynn. Lois loved her Savior and spent many hours working with the women’s groups at the various churches she attended throughout her life, usually behind the scenes as a supporter and worker bee, as she didn’t like the spotlight and avoided cameras whenever possible. While raising their own family, she and Rene, as a ministry, were long term foster parents over 25 years for Anoka County to many teenaged kids, whom she loved like her own. She loved her family and often shared with her friends how proud she was of her kids’ and brothers’ accomplishments. Of late, the joys of her life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed the times she spent in North Carolina with Jamie and Jean and told the stories over and over again of their trips and visits. She loved the annual big All Great-grandchildren Birthday Party up at the farm in the summer. Lois and Rene were a unit; together all the time to the end. She was an example of a wonderful wife and mom and the personification of what a grandma should be. She was known for her friendliness and always making everyone feel welcome. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Elsie Rein; her brothers, “Bud” Robert and “Rollie” Roland Rein; and her great-grandson, Levi Malone. She is survived and will be missed by her husband of 63 years, Rene; her three daughters, Shelly (Chris) Samuel, Micki (Tim) Malone, and Lynn (Emilio) Piacenza; her grandchildren, Jamie (Jean) Simko, Jake Malone, Rachel (Chris) Bennett, Bekah (Brandon) Swanson, and Libby Wieditz Malone; her 14 great-grandchildren; her brother, “Dick” Richard (Barbara) Rein; two nieces and three nephews; foster kids and many friends. On Sunday, June 9, 2019 her Trinity Baptist Church Sunday School class family had a time of remembrance and memorial which celebrated her life and faith. A funeral service is being held on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at the Washburn-McReavy Hillside Chapel, 2610-19th Av. NE, Mpls, MN. Visitation at 10 AM, Service at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations requested to Gillette Children’s Hospital or Food for the Poor.org.
