Lilla Ramnarain

Lilla Ramnarain passed away peacefully surrounded by her love ones on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 5:45pm. Lilla was born on February 5, 1939, in Albion, Guyana to Jagdai and Sukhu. She was the younger sister of Shiela, who passed away in 2025. Lilla got married at 16 to Roy, the love of her life, and they had seven children together: Mary, Steve, Joshua (passed), Martha, Anne, Christine, and Nervana. At the age of 33, Lilla became a businesswoman when she decided to make snacks such as sugar cake, fudge, ice block, popsicles, and salsaeo and to sell them to schoolchildren. It was hard work to create these snacks as she had to begin making them the night before and continue throughout the night. Then she would be up early to sell them to children before school and during lunch. Many have fond memories from their childhood of Auntie Lilla selling them the best, most delicious treats. This skill would be passed down to her children who all became ambitious businesspeople in their own way. In 1988, Lilla moved to the United States of America where she resided in South Minneapolis. Lilla worked at Tyro Industries until retirement and spent many years spending time with her doting daughters and grandchildren. Lilla will be remembered as a kind and loving wife, mother, and grandmother who loved nothing more than seeing her family together. She leaves to mourn her children: Mary (Marvin), Steve (Pam), Joshua (passed), Martha (Ken), Anne (Mootoo), Christine (Paul), and Nervana (Jerry); one sister: Sheila (passed); 18 grandchildren: Andy (Sandra), Charlie (Jen), Kelvin (Catherine), Christopher (Anushka), Brian (Shiney), Nicholas (Natalia), Nathan, Jeremy (Khushi), Rahannah (Tyler), Alison (Andrew), Matthew, Simeon (Jamie), Gabriella (Patrick), Miranda, Elijah, Devahn, Julian, Adalene, Syriauna and Charlotte; nine great grandchildren: Aysia, Jose, Anthony, Vivek, Gabriel, Mileena, Colin, Roshan, Suhana and Glenn; nieces and nephews; and a host of other family members and friends. Lilla's funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 1st, with the viewing scheduled for 10:00am and the funeral service for 11:00am. Both will take place at Washburn-McReavy Dawn Valley Chapel, 9940 Bush Lake Road, Bloomington, MN.
