Kenneth Lloyd Broady

"He was always smiling and had twinkly blue eyes. He was one of the kindest people I know." That's what many have said upon learning of the passing of Kenneth Lloyd Broady on April 1, 2026. Born on March 28, 1945 in Owatonna, MN, Ken spent his final days at his home in New Hope, MN, lovingly surrounded by his children and grandchildren and 3 caring cats. Ken was the baby of four kids born to Elsie & Lloyd Broady, growing up in rural Minnesota with his brothers and sisters, attending high school in Northfield, MN. Shortly thereafter, he met the love of his life, Sara Sue (Sutherland) Broady, to whom he was married for over 53 years. At the very start of their married life, Ken left for Vietnam, where he served as a Medic in the Army for over 2 years. After completing his tour in Vietnam, Sara and Ken began raising a family, having son Dan, and then daughters Keri and Kelly. Ken also got his associate's degree and began working as an X-ray Technician at the University of Minnesota Hospital, where he made many friends during his 43-year career. In addition to being a loving, patient, and kind-hearted husband and father, Ken was an avid cyclist, often riding his bike to and from work, and impressively competing in biathlons. To the surprise of his competitive grandsons, Ken was also a ping-pong "shark", besting the boys at many a game. Throughout their marriage, Ken loved spending time with Sara and with family and friends - whether that be at their many trips to the casino, going to movies, card club, chatting with neighbors, visiting Army friends he served with, attending religious meetings, or relaxing with the cats. As a dad, Ken doted on his 3 children, surpassed...maybe...only by the love he showered on his 5 grandchildren. He spent many hours cheering at band concerts, sports events, supporting history projects by sharing stories of his service in Vietnam, and more. He had a close relationship with all his kids, and a special bond with youngest daughter Kelly, with whom he shared a home after Sara passed, going on trips, to Vikings & Gopher games and more. No matter where Ken was, he was sure to be beaming with that familiar smile and twinkle in his eye...often on the brink of sharing a "dad joke" - the cheesier the better. While we will miss the presence of this kind dad, grandpa, and friend, we know he is with God. We can see Ken catching up with his beloved Sara, sharing stories about their life & most wonderful kids & grandkids with everyone up in Heaven. Preceded in death by parents, Elsie and Lloyd, wife Sara Broady, brother Alfred & sister Lois. Ken is survived by a loving and grateful family; son Dan (Gabriella) Broady, daughters Keri (Curt) Leeseberg and Kelly Broady, and five grandchildren: Brendan (Tyra) Broady, Logan Broady, and Cadie, Chloe, and Kendra Leeseberg. Also survived by sister Lila Stein and other extended family. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Minneapolis VA Healthcare System in appreciation for the wonderful care he received from the doctors and nurses, or to the Animal Human Society, to honor his love of pets.
