Kay (Peterson) Van Hulzen

Van Hulzen (Peterson), Kay R. Passed into eternal life with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on 9/20/10 with her family surrounding her in their home in Brooklyn Park. She battled colon cancer for nearly 10 years. Kay was born on 11/13/63 in Lincoln, NE. She was married to Chad on 6/6/87. They raised their family in Maryland, California, and Brooklyn Park, MN. She is survived by her husband, Chad; daughters, Amy and Megan; as well as her parents, Roland and Jeri Peterson (Fridley); sister, Peggy Werness (Farmington); brothers, Dan (Burnsville) and Mick (Grand Ledge, MI); Chad's dad and mom, Glenn and Connie Van Hulzen (Fridley) and Chad's brothers, Trent (Mobile, AL) and Dane (Coon Rapids); Chad's grandmother, Grace Van Hulzen (Edgerton); as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Reuben and Helen Ek, Fillmore and Arloine Peterson; as well as Chad's grandparents, James and Rose Walhof, and John Van Hulzen. Kay was a 1982 graduate of Fridley High School. She attended Northwestern College in Roseville for 2 years and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1986 with a degree in retail merchandising. Chad was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and spent 6 years as an Officer (Captain) in the U.S. Marine Corps. As a result they spent years in military sites in Rhode Island, Virginia, North Carolina, California and Maryland. Kay and Chad returned to Minnesota after his military duties. He is currently employed by Target Corporation. Kay was active in many ministries at Grace Evangelical Free Church in Fridley. Kay was also a loving wife and mom, was involved in many sports activities in the Brooklyn Park community where she had many special friends. A memorial service will be held at Grace Evangelical Free Church, 755 - 73rd Ave NE, Fridley, MN 55432 on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday evening, Sept. 24 from 6-9 PM, and one hour prior to service on Saturday. Private interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
