Jean M Burton

Burton, Jean M., BA, RN, CCRN Our beloved Jean (Teddi) Burton has left us after a courageous two year battle with a rare uterine endometrial cancer. She was surrounded by family and friends and passed peacefully at the JA Wedum Residential Hospice in Brooklyn Park the morning of August 31, 2015. Jean was born in Zebulon, NC and preceded in death by her birth mother Martha Flowers (two weeks post-delivery), her father Lt Col. USAF Theodore Clifton Pippin II and her grandmother Marie Flowers. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and friend for 51 years, husband Geoffrey (Jeff) Burton; son, Matthew Burton (Stacy Marie); mother, Ms. Louise Pippin; brother, Clifford Pippin (Doris); sister, Cynthia Dothard; brother-in-law, Tracy Burton (Susan Molitoris); mother-in-law, Lois Burton; many nieces and nephews. Jean (and Jeff) graduated from Annandale High School in Annandale, VA in 1964. She attended the University of Maryland (Munich, Germany), University of Florida and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BA major in Psychology in 1969. Son Matthew was born to Jean and Jeff in 1972 and five years later she entered the Nursing Program at North Hennepin Community College. Receiving her RN she went on to receive her Critical Care Nursing Certification. She began her distinguished career with North Memorial Medical Center and continued there for the next 35 years. Jean worked many years the ICU, Cath Lab, and Post Anesthesia Recovery Unit (PACU). Prior to Retirement she was one of several Administrative Managers at NMMC and even continued part-time after retirement. Jean received many distinguished nursing awards and recognition for her positive attitude and compassionate care. Jean enjoyed sailing in Lake Superior and Caribbean with family and friends as well as gardening, reading, traveling and being with friends. Jean's family wishes to thank the many friends, co-workers and care givers that were there for her and family during her journey; in particular, her friend Mickey, the staff at Minnesota Oncology, Mercy Hospital and the staff at the JA Wedum Residential Hospice. Visitation and Celebration of Life will be held at Washburn-McReavy Glen Haven Funeral Chapel & Memorial Gardens, 5125 West Broadway, Crystal, MN 55429 (763) 533-8643. Visitation Thursday, Sept 17, 4pm-8pm and Friday, Sept 18, 9am-11am and Mass of Christian Burial Sept 18 at 11am at the Glen Haven Chapel. Lunch buffet to follow.
