James Robert Bowman

Bowman, James Robert "Jim" 90, entered God's kingdom January 19, 2025. Jim was born January 31, 1934 in Elkhart, IN. His family moved to Minneapolis, MN when he was 2 and he graduated from Central High School in south Minneapolis in 1952. Jim joined the Marines at age 19 on March 24, 1953 and served until being honorably discharged on March 23, 1956. During his time in active duty he worked as an airplane mechanic in Atsugi, Japan, working on F9F Panther jet fighters. After the military, Jim attended the University of Minnesota for two years, before transferring to Dunwoody to continue his mechanical studies. He worked at Ziegler CAT for eight years, then worked the remainder of his career at Mosler Safe Company. He met the love of his life, Ellie, on a blind date and they married June 28, 1958. Together, they raised four kids, first in Bloomington, and in 1972, they moved to Eden Prairie to the home Jim built on Crestwood Terrace. He enjoyed many road trips around the U.S. with his family, bowling in leagues with Ellie, scuba diving on annual trips to the Caribbean as well as a trip of a lifetime to the Great Barrier Reef, and spending time with friends. In retirement, along with Ellie, spent many dedicated hours volunteering at Habitat for Humanity and Toys for Tots. He also enjoyed many games of golf at their home in Four Lakes Golf Club in Florida and at Traveler's Country Club on the Mississippi in Minnesota during the warmer months. He also loved working with wood and building model airplanes. Jim will be remembered for his kindness and generosity, readily offering assistance to those in need, leaving a positive impact on everyone he meets. Preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Eleanor Bowman, parents Robert and Ruby Bowman, and sister Marilyn Klein. Survived by sons Richard (Ana) and Dennis, daughters Karen and Debbie (Barry Kleist), and granddaughter Esther Eleanor Lunar Bowman and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Memorials may be directed to First Christian Church of Minneapolis. A celebration of Jim's life will be held on Thursday, February 13th at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at First Christian Church in the Spring House Ministry Center located at 610 W 28th St., Minneapolis, MN.
