Helen (Ortman) Zerull

Zerull, Helen Buryl (Ortman) age 95, most recently of Bloomington, passed away peacefully on December 5 , 2011. She was born in Garden City, Kansas on April 1, 1916. Helen is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Leonard Albert Zerull and her parents, John and Grace Ortman. She will be greatly missed by her sister, Virginia Lester; children, Mary (Albert) Traynham, John (Beata), Bob (Gwenn), Susan (Mike) Steel, Jim (fiancée Bonnie Laverdure), Tom (Carol), and Bill (Heather); grandchildren, Mark & Allison Traynham, Jim & Dan Steel, Jennifer Coolong, Ryan, Sarah, Peter, Nathan, Allan, Mike, Annie, Julia and Noah Zerull; great- grandchildren, Madeline Traynham; Gavin, Aidan, Greyson, Aubrey and Colton Steel; Brody, Adelyn, Zander and Taylor Zerull; and soon-to-be- born, Zoey Zerull. Helen graduated from Garden City High School and Junior College, where she was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority and attended the Wichita Business College in Wichita, Kansas. She was an accomplished musician as a pianist and also played the string bass. She dedicated her life to raising her seven children. She was active in St. Hilary's Guild at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, took up golf once she retired, participated in activities at the Edina Senior Center, and enjoyed dancing with Leonard at their dance club. Helen was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and was able to attend her first game at Target Field this past summer. Everyone Helen met loved her; she was always more concerned about others than herself. She was a long-time resident of Edina prior to moving to Breck Homes in Bloomington. Thank you to Breck Homes and Fairview Hospice for your tender, loving care during Helen's last days. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Church of St. Patrick, 6820 St. Patrick's Lane, Edina, MN 55439 or Breck Homes Residential Care Center, LLC, 312 West 95th St., Bloomington, MN 55420. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 6820 St. Patrick's Lane (Valley View at Gleason), Edina, MN on December 9 at 9:30 AM.
