George Ernest "Kip" Hutson

George "Kip" Ernest Hutson, born December 20, 1937 in Chicago, passed away early morning March 7th, 2026 at the age of 88, in Las Vegas, NV surrounded by his loving wife and family after a courageous battle with lung cancer. George is survived and dearly missed by his loving wife of 12 years, Eugenia (Jean) Arger Hutson, his children Todd (Barb) Hutson and Lisa (Tom Moser) Nelson, stepdaughters Carrie (Scott) Turner and Cindi (Troy) Hatlestad, stepson Mike Susk and his dear sister Barbara (Hutson) Baethke. Forever cherished and remembered by his many grand and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews as well as many friends and extended family members that will miss him dearly. George was preceded in death by his parents, George Joseph and Muriel Ann (Quenzer) Hutson, his sister Lorra (Hutson) Schwartz and brother-in-law Paul Schwartz, and his beloved second wife, Magdalena "Maggie" (Vidervol) Hutson. George was born at Westside Hospital in Chicago, attended West Chicago High School, and attended Elgin College in Illinois for one semester before he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1958. He completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri and was accepted into Officer's Candidate School. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant infantryman at Fort Benning, Georgia in 1959. George served in active duty and then served in the reserves until 1969. He served as Captain of the 63rd Division, special forces, ultimately achieving the rank of Major before retiring from his military career. George began his professional career in sales for the Packaging Machinery Division, FMC Corporation in the Los Angeles office in 1962. He moved to Minnesota in 1969, working his way up to General Manager of General Dairy Equipment where he learned general management and membrane filtration. During this time, George was awarded a US Patent in the food industry for an adjustable container conveyor that is rapidly and precisely adjustable for various sizes of containers in filling equipment. George started his own company, Filtration Engineering Company, Inc. on November 1st, 1982. He designed and manufactured membrane processing equipment for the dairy industry, traveling worldwide on business, building relationships with business partners and customers alike, many of whom he maintained deep relationships throughout his later life. In 1994, he was awarded the President's "E" Certificate for Exports for "outstanding contributions to the Export Expansion Program of the United States of America". In 1996, George moved his company's headquarters into Champlin, MN. The city's leaders honored him in 2013 with an award and a key to the city for his many contributions to the city over the years. In 2012, George sold Filtration Engineering to Tetra Pak and continued to operate Prospect Analytical until he sold this business to AMETEK MOCON in February 2019 when he finally decided to retire at the ripe old age of 81! Many will remember George for his joyful personality, his family centered priorities, his many words of wisdom, helping others to start businesses and achieve their own success, his keen intelligence, delightful sense of humor and his eternal optimism. He embodied the best of qualities as an entrepreneur, salesman, storyteller, leader, mentor, family patriarch, world traveler, and proud American who loved his family dearly. He truly loved life and made the best of his 88 years.
