Gayle Irene Dalager

Gayle Irene Dalager, age 81, passed away on Monday, October 28th at her memory care facility in Shakopee, MN. Gayle was born on June 2, 1943 in St. Paul MN to Jacob (Jake) and Evangeline (Eva) Wirkkula. Gayle graduated from Central High School in St. Paul MN in 1961. She moved to Georgia and was married to her first husband, Robert (Bob) Slone in 1964. While Bob was in the Military, they lived in Georgia and North Carolina and had a small stint overseas in Germany. They had their first and only Son, Keith, in 1970. In 1979 Gayle returned to MN and was remarried in 1984 to Roger Dalager. They lived for many years together in their home in Bloomington, MN and enjoyed spending time in the Summer up at the family cabin on Pelican Lake in Orr, MN. Gayle worked for Sperry Univac/Unisys for most of her career before joining Donaldson company where she ultimately retired. She spent a lot of her time caregiving for family members. She was a natural caregiver, was a kind and compassionate, and always put her family first. Gayle was proceeded in death by her Parents Jacob (Jake) and Evangeline (Eva) Wirkkula; her Husband, Roger Dalager; her sisters Lois (George) Washburn and Vivian/Dolly (Stan) Stanz; stepchildren John Dalager and Deborah Culhane; nephews Paul Stanz and Jeff Beaton. She is survived by her son, Keith (Lynn) Slone; Step-Daughters Becky (Mike) Clauson, Joy (Joel) Smetanka and Kristen Martell; nephews/nieces Tim (Cathy) Stanz, Julie Stanz, John (Pam) Beaton, Joe (Linda) Beaton and Jason (Jennifer) Beaton. 14 Grandchildren: Sydney (Max), Bryce (Grace), Thomas, Hannah, Josef, Noah, Emily, Kelsey, Evan, Marissa, Paris and Landon; one Great-Grandson Ace and many loving family members and friends. We want to thank the staff at Benedictine Living Windermere Way in Shakopee for their kindness, care and comfort they provided Gayle over the past four months during her time in memory care, as well as, the staff at Hospice of the Midwest for their incredible care and support for Gayle over the past couple weeks while she was in home hospice. An outdoor gravesite memorial service will be held at Washburn McReavy Funeral Chapel, Bloomington, Minnesota on Wednesday, November 6th at 2pm.
