Elizabeth Ann Wallis

Wallis, Elizabeth "Liz" of Edina, passed away unexpectedly on February 26, 2021. She died peacefully, on her 77th birthday, with her husband and daughters at her side. Liz was born on February 26, 1944. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Mike, daughters Robin (Dave) Savageau and Heidi Meland, grandsons Zack Meland, Adam and Ben Savageau. Sisters Rosemary Reilly, Joanne (Danny) Boogaard and brother Russell Packard, as well as many nieces and nephews. Liz grew up in Stubbs Bay and graduated from Orono High School in 1962. Liz was married to Roger Meland from 1963 to 1991. She lived in Mound for more than 50 years where she raised her family. She dedicated herself to volunteerism, including 15 years with Girl Scouts, numerous initiatives in her community, and 44 years of serving through St. John's Lutheran Church. In 1993 she married Mike Wallis. Liz and Mike traveled frequently and enjoyed listening to live music and exploring local museums, art galleries and locations off the beaten path. They moved to Edina in 2015 to be closer to family. Liz had a fulfilling career as a hair stylist for more than 50 years, mainly in Wayzata and Ridgedale. She accumulated lifelong customers that became lifelong friends. Liz loved her work and was known for her creativity and dedication to her employees and her customers. Liz had a wonderful sense of adventure, loved to travel, and spend time outdoors. The North Shore held a special place in her heart. Liz befriended anyone in her path, she loved to help people, and held onto those steadfast friendships forever. She was generous of herself, her time, and she loved opening her home to friends and family. Her sparkly personality was magnetic and was a highlight of her family gatherings. She loved to throw a party, complete with tiaras and wild decorations. Her three grandsons were a joy to her. She was fiercely proud of the boys they were, and the men they would become. She instilled in them a love of nature, acceptance of others and how to be yourself. Liz was a stroke survivor and cancer survivor. For the past several years Liz participated in and volunteered for the Inspire Program for stroke survivors at Methodist hospital and also through Minnesota Connect Aphasia Now (MnCan). These programs provided a connection to new friends, a welcoming community and allowed Liz to continue to work on herself, learn new skills and help others in a similar situation. She was also a member of the Voices Moving Forward choir for people with Aphasia.
