Edward J. Meszaros

Meszaros, Edward J. 89, a resident of Edina, Minnesota for 43 years, passed away on January 4 in the Palm Springs, California area. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Therese, a sister, four sons, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Edward retired in 1990 after a five-decade career with Deluxe Corporation. He served in several positions in the company, starting as a press operator in Cleveland, Ohio and advancing into management positions in that plant and others in Portland, Oregon and San Jose, California. Ed completed his long career with the company with 20 years at its St. Paul headquarters, which included serving as the company's safety coordinator and its liaison with the U.S. Postal Service. He received the U.S. Postmaster General's Partnership for Progress Award in recognition for outstanding leadership in 1988. He was a member of the Financial Services Association and a member and officer of the Parcel Shippers Association for 30 years. They honored him by establishing the Ed Meszaros Adopt a School program in Washington, D.C. to help visually-impaired children fully participate in their schooling. From 1943 to 1951, Edward served in the United States Navy. His time in the U.S. Navy included serving on transport vessels during World War II and on the battleship USS Missouri during the Korean conflict. While working for Deluxe and raising five sons, Edward found the time to attend college part-time over a period of twenty years, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management from San Jose State College in 1968. Edward and Therese were avid social ballroom dancers. His other passions were playing golf, taking annual nature trips with his sons and grandsons, and traveling with Therese and close friends around the world. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 17 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Edina, where the family have been active members during their life in Edina.
