Edna Joan Kimmes

Edna (King) Kimmes, Age 96, passed away April 11, 2026, after a long journey with dementia. Edna's working life was varied, including x-ray technician, Real Estate admin, and many years working at Prudential Insurance's North Central Office in various roles. She delighted candy lovers locally as proprietress of Edna's Caramels, selling her candy at local specialty stores and at the Mill City and Maple Grove Farmer's Markets. Edna also had a love of baking and was known for her incredible array of Christmas cookies and wonderful birthday cakes: "store bought" just wouldn't cut it. Mom loved music. She sang for many years with the Plymouth Rockers and played piano and organ at church. She played the lottery and loved to gamble, always trying for the illusive "big one." She played a years long cribbage tournament with her husband and was the recipient of a perfect "29 hand". Mom loved partying with her "secretary bird" friends, as well as with the Irish community in Hastings on Saint Patrick's Day. She liked travelling with groups from the Plymouth Senior Center and taking marathon car trips with her husband Joe. She enjoyed her few trips out to North Carolina's beautiful barrier island of Emerald Isle - sitting on the deck and watching the waves was a favorite activity. Mom was also a prolific writer, capturing seemingly every detail of the trips she took and life in general. She enjoyed weekly participation in her writer's group. Mom had a great sense of humor and was always game for shenanigans like the great Trolli vs. Haribo gummy bear taste off, creating many elaborately decorated "fake cakes" or dressing up as Tina Turner for the Halloween party at the office. Edna was beloved and is survived by her husband of over 70 years, Joseph Kimmes, and children Maria (Larry) Bormann, Carolynn Kimmes, Joe (Stephanie) Kimmes, John (Sally) Kimmes, as well as grandchildren Jacqui Bormann, Nikki (Joel) Doering, Dariya (Jared) Du Pont, Lucy, Adam, Brianna, Esther and Anna Kimmes, and great grandchildren Max and Quinn Doering and Oliver Murphy . She is predeceased by her first-born, Mark Kimmes, her sisters and parents, and many other relatives and friends. A funeral mass will be held on May 5, 2026, at Saint Joseph's Catholic Community, 8701 36th Ave N, New Hope, MN 55427. Visitation at 10:00 a.m. with mass to follow at 11:00 a.m.
