Earline Goodwin Holmes

April 4th-, 1943 - May 11th, 2023 Earline Goodwin Holmes of Minneapolis, passed away Thursday, May 11th, from natural causes. Earline was born to Morris Goodwin, Sr. and Lela Mae Goodwin on April 4th, 1943 in Louann, Arkansas. She was a loving mother to five children, Larry L. Goodwin (Xuemei), James M. Holmes, Jr., Willie E. Holmes (Cindy), Shirley Holmes-Perry (Gene) and Bobby C. Holmes (Kathy). She was the grandmother of twelve grandchildren; Erika Goodwin, Emma Goodwin (deceased), Allyson Goodwin-Pinder (Brandon), Desirae McBride, (Zedric), Angelica Holmes, Michael Holmes (Sarah), Zoey Holmes, Willie Holmes, Jr., Xavier Jones (LaNita), Jodi Holmes, Sydney Baird-Holmes, (Fred) and Moses Holmes. She had thirteen great grandchildren and a host of nephews and nieces. Earline joined Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Louann, Arkansas at an early age. Upon moving to Minneapolis in August 1966, she joined Emmanuel Tabernacle Church of God in Christ. She sang in the choir for many decades and was a proud member of the Mother Board. As the family matriarch, she was a tenacious servant leader. She believed that if anyone wanted to learn, no one could stop them. If they didn't want to learn, then no one can force them. She was a divorced mother of five children, and at the time, didn't have a high school diploma or a job. She went back to school and completed her high school education. She also worked multiple jobs simultaneously while taking college courses one and two at a time. After taking college courses over approximately 21 years, she earned two college degrees from the University of Minnesota and Concordia University, receiving her last degree at the of age of 53. She was often referred to as a "Unicorn" and "Outlier" for her tenacity and perseverance to beat long odds. She was a great inspiration for her kids, grand kids, nieces, nephews and others. She retired after 30 years of meritorious service from the United States federal government (U.S. Forest Service). Earline Goodwin-Holmes was preceded by her parents Morris,Sr. and Lela, her stepfather Mose Jones, Jr., stepmother Earselene Goodwin, her sisters Alberta, Jewel Dean and Shirley Faye and her granddaughter, Emma. She is survived by her brother Morris Goodwin, Jr., (Donna) and sister Pamela Goodwin Carter (Robert).
