Douglas Warren Gardner

Douglas W. Gardner Age 71, of Saint Paul, MN, passed away on July 26, 2020. Doug was taken to heaven after a battle with multiple health conditions. Doug is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Amy and Rodger Gardner. Doug is survived by his wife, Madrene; daughters, Carla Gardner, Amy Loveridge (Dean), Julia Grachova and sons, Neil Gardner (Nicole) and Stas Gonkarov (Vika); granddaughters, Soul, Ashley, Emma, Marina, Nastya, Oksana, Nika; great-granddaughters, Anya, Vlada, Solamia and great-grandson, Lien; sisters, Laurie Lawrence (Wade), Susan Brunner (John), Becky Johnson (Tim); brothers, David Gardner (Cathy), Brian Gardner (Kathy), Bruce Gardner (Holly) and many nieces and nephews. Doug was born and raised in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He attended Murray High School and joined the US Army shortly after graduation. SGT Doug served in Germany during the Vietnam War as a helicopter mechanic. Upon discharge from the Army, Doug obtained an associates degree in maintenance and later ran the maintenance department at Pearson's Candy Company (where he met his wife, Madrene). He later took over the management of Scale Model Supplies, a small hobby store in Saint Paul, MN. Doug was able to grow Scale Model Supplies into one of the largest hobby stores in the Midwest. Scale Model Supplies, known as his "other wife", is now in the capable hands of his brother Bruce. Doug was a lover of Christ who used his gifts to help teach children in Ukraine the English language using the stories of the Bible. Doug and Madrene have done mission work for the past 19 years in Ukraine. Doug had a deep love for his adopted Ukraine family and was blessed to spend two weeks in Ukraine on his last mission trip right before the Covid outbreak. Those of us blessed to know Doug will miss his sense of humor, his laugh, his kindness and generosity. He was a, "lovable, humble, shoe-shine boy." Join us in celebrating Doug's life: Visitation Sunday, August 2, 2020 - 2-6 pm at HOLCOMB-HENRY-BOOM-PURCELL FUNERAL HOME; 515 Hwy 96 W, Shoreview, MN 55126 Memorial service Monday, August 3, 2020 at 10am (visitation 9-10 AM) at the funeral home Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery All monetary memorials will be donated to Ukraine missions.
