Doraine L. Peterson

Born September 24, 1932 Died March 17, 2010 Preceded in death by parents, Herbert and Hilma Anderson. Survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Robert "Bob" Peterson, Sr.; children, Janet Peterson Fischer (Steve Fischer), Rob (Suzanne), and Lisa Peterson-Kinnunen (Kevin Kinnunen); and grandson Kolten. Also survived by sister, Delores Johnson; brother, Douglas Anderson (Jean); numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many, many friends. After graduating from Superior Central in 1950, she attended Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota and graduated with an AA degree. She went onto Mankato State Teacher's College where she received a teaching certificate. She taught at Nelson Elementary School in Columbia Heights for several years. While raising her three children, she and husband, Bob, started Peterson Enterprises in 1965. The 45 year-old company still located in Fridley, Minnesota, employs several family members. Doraine was most noted for her intense devotion to faith and family. Doraine was an amazing wife, mother and grandmother. Doraine and Bob have been members of Grace Point (Salem Baptist) Church for over 40 years. She was involved in many ministries at Salem, including Awana and choir. Doraine was an avid sports fan and was the number "One Fan" for all her children and grandson's volleyball, basketball, track and field, hockey, cross-country, gymnastics, soccer, and lacrosse games. Her deep spiritual commitment led her to serve Trout Lake Camp, Salem Baptist, and Bethel in many capacities. At 5:50 AM on March 17, 2010, she was taken by the Lord to her eternal heavenly home. Doraine was dearly loved and will be missed by her husband, children, and grandchild whom she deeply loved. A special thanks to all the nurses and caregivers at Waverly Gardens Caring Household and Allina Hospice for the wonderful care and attention she received since she moved there with Bob in December 2009. With grateful hearts we want to acknowledge Cliff (Doraine's cousin) and Shirley Vennerstrom for the friendship, support and help in upholding Doraine and us during her long battle with Dementia. There will be a gathering Saturday, March 20th from 2-5 PM at HOLCOMB-HENRY-BOOM-PURCELL FUNERAL HOME; 515 W. Hwy 96 at Mackubin, Shoreview. A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 21st at 4:00 PM at GRACE POINT CHURCH; 2351 Rice Creek Road, New Brighton. Memorial preferred to Salem Foundation or Allina Hospice.
