Donna Mae Murphy

-Donna Mae Murphy died peacefully at the Minnesota Masonic Home of Bloomington on March 31, 2025, at the age of 88. She is survived by her brothers John (Mary) Murphy of Belle Plaine, Mn., Robert (Mary Lou) Murphy of Savage, sister-in-law Darlene Murphy of Shakopee and brother-in-law Mike Garry of Austin. She is preceded in death by her parents Mark and Dorothy (French) Murphy, sister Kitty Garry and brother Bill (March 30, 2025). Donna was born on Sept. 17,1936, to Mark and Dorothy Murphy. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1954. She went on to earn a degree at Mankato State University, studying Elementary Education. She later earned her Master's degree in education from UCLA. In 1959, she began her teaching career in the Bloomington Public Schools, where she remained for more than 40 years. Donna was a longtime member of Pax Christi Catholic Church in Eden Prairie and made her faith the center of her life. She was a very dedicated volunteer, serving as a leader at Pax Christi on its Social Justice Committee, while also organizing a women's bible study and writing for the church newsletter. She was a very active part of Pax Christi's Loaves and Fishes program for more than 30 years. Inspired by her faith, Donna was committed in her support of social causes, working with the Democratic Party at the state and nationally levels. She loved to travel, both throughout the United States and internationally, with trips to China, Russia, Italy, Mexico and Guatemala. Donna was dedicated to her family, caring for her mother Dorothy throughout her later years. She was also a remarkably attentive aunt to her 22 nieces and nephews. A funeral is scheduled for Wednesday, April 9, at 11 a.m. with visitation from 10-11 at Pax Christi Catholic Community with a reception immediately following at the church. A burial will follow the reception in Belle Plaine. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Catholic Charities or Pax Christi Catholic Community.
