Lewis, Darline Caroline Kolander 12/5/26 - 5/31/17 On Wednesday, May 31, Darline got her wish to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and join her husband Duane in Heaven. She passed peacefully and with grace in the company of loving family members. She was born 12/5/26 on a farm near Lakefield, MN to parents Leonhard and Anna Kolander. There as no running water or electricity and heat was from a wood burning stove. The home was full of love and she deeply loved her parents and siblings and fondly remembered them through out her adult life. She walked to grade school at St. Peter's Lutheran School and graduated from Lakefield high school. She attended Mankato Beauty School where she met Duane Lewis on a blind dates in 1946. When she came down the stairs in a short dress Duane said, you are the girl I am marrying. They were married July 5th, 1947 at the St. Peter Lutheran Church where Darline was baptized and confirmed. They were married almost 50 years until Duane died April 20th, 1997. Their first home was in St. Louis Park with money borrowed from Duane's father. Duane was employed by US F & G Insurance and the family moved to Sioux Falls, Omaha, Cleveland and Burnsville, MN. When they moved to Burnsville Darline got her first car and worked for Welcome Wagon and several years at Burnsville High School. They opened Dars Hallmark Shop in Shakopee, MN. They worked together seven days a week and sold it tweny one years later when Duane became ill. After Duane passed in 1997 Darline sold the house and moved to 7500 York in Edina for 10+ years. As a young girl her parents took her to church every Sunday and she learned to love God. Her mom taught her to be optimistic, look for the best in each person and smile. Her faith was always very important and she made sure all of her children were confirmed in the Lutheran church. She was most recently a member at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church and was active as a volunteer in the kitchen for many church events. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonhard and Anna, husband Duane and sisters, Vernice and Mary Ann. Darline was an incredible loving and nurturing mother and is survived by her three chldren, daughter, Deborah (William) Merriman; sons, Dwight (Kathleen) and Darwin (Janet); grandchildren, Michael (Shawnee) Merriman, Ann Merriman, David Merriman, Neil Dobos, Rachel Lewis, Jessica (Darin) Hrabe and Samantha (David) Rockwood; great-grandchildren, Charlie Grace, Dylan, Graham and Jacqueline. Donations in memory of Darline and in her honor may be made to Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church. Celebration of Life Thursday, June 8th, 2 PM with visitation 1 hour prior to the service at Mt.
