Daniel Lee Dohse

Daniel Dohse, born June 21, 1979, in Robbinsdale, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind a family and community who loved him deeply. Dan grew up in Crystal, Minnesota, and was the son of Pam Aritt and Steve Dohse. He was also raised with the love and guidance of his stepfather, Larry Aritt. Dan was a brother to Amanda Aritt and an uncle to Mykenzie, along with being a beloved father, son, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend to many. Dan's life was not always an easy one. Addiction became a part of his life for nearly 35 years, but it was never the entirety of who he was. In recent years, Dan fought hard to reclaim his life through recovery. This month, he reached two years of sobriety, a milestone that represented an incredible amount of strength, determination, and courage. His recovery became deeply important to him, and so did the community he found through Narcotics Anonymous. The people he met along that journey became an important part of his life, offering him friendship, understanding, accountability, and a sense of belonging. To his NA family, Dan was more than his addiction. He was a fellow traveler, a friend, and someone who understood the courage it takes to keep choosing recovery one day at a time. His family is deeply grateful to the people who walked beside him, supported him, celebrated his victories, and loved him through his journey. Dan was also a father. His son, Benjamin, was born very prematurely and passed away shortly after birth. Though their time together was far too brief, Ben will always be a part of Dan's story and will forever hold a place in his heart and in the hearts of his family. Dan is survived by his mother, Pam Aritt; father, Steve Dohse; grandmother, Donna Resler Aunts and Uncles; sister, Amanda Aritt; brother Jason Dohse, niece, Mykenzie; and many other family members and friends who will carry his memory with them. He was preceded in death by his son, Benjamin; stepfather, Larry Aritt; maternal grandfather Lawrence Resler; paternal grandparents Don and Betty Dohse; cousin, Curt Resler; aunt and uncle Dawn and Bill Shelton; and other beloved family members. Dan's life cannot be defined by how it ended. His was a complicated journey, filled with struggles, loss, resilience, and ultimately a hard-won period of recovery. He was a son, brother, father, uncle, grandson, and friend. He was loved through every chapter of his life, including the difficult ones. His family hopes Dan will be remembered not simply for the years he struggled, but for the person he fought to become. They will remember the two years of sobriety he was so very proud of, the people he found in recovery, and the countless lives he touched along the way. To Dan's NA family: thank you for loving him, standing beside him, and helping him find two years of a life he fought so hard to have. Please know that your place in his story matters to us, too. Rest peacefully, Dan. Your journey mattered. Your recovery mattered. Your life mattered. You are loved, you are missed, and you will not be forgotten. Dan's funeral service will be held at Washburn McReavy Glen Haven Chapel located at 5125 W Broadway, Crystal, MN 55429. Visitation will begin at 10am and his funeral service will begin at 11am. We invite everyone to join us in celebrating Dan's life at the Crystal VFW post 494 for a luncheon following the service at 1pm.
