Dale Raymond Herzog

With great sadness we announce the passing of Dale Raymond Herzog, of Coon Rapids, MN at the age of 76, on June 2, 2023. Dale was born to Alfred and Elenore Herzog on July 1, 1946, in St Cloud, Minnesota. Dale grew up in Willow River, Minnesota in a large family before joining the military to serve in the Vietnam War. Upon return from service, Dale met the love of his life, Cathy, and raised a family of 3 boys, Brian, Brad and Bill. He started his work career at a local dairy and ended it after 30 years as a skilled locksmith. Many friends and family enjoyed the Dale discount of "just pay for the hardware, the labor is on me." His generosity and willingness to help extended to anyone who had something to do like sausage to make, jam to jar, hay to bail, wood to cut, split or mill, or any other project you can imagine. Dale would not only show up to help but could be counted on to show up at least an hour early, ready to go. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, having a good time and making everyone laugh with his quick wit, one-liners, and fast comebacks. Dale was always ready for a game of cribbage and was likely to have his hand counted and yours before you could blink, but was known to let his opponent win the first game. In retirement with Cathy by his side, Dale loved to visit and spend time with his seven grandchildren. He had fun at the various sport events, dance recitals, bike races, band concerts and cherished time just spent talking and telling stories. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Elenore Herzog; sister, Annella Suchoski; brother, Harvey Herzog; in-laws, Harry and Gertrude Maniak; and brothers-in-law, John Maniak and Jim Walker. Dale will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Cathy Herzog; as well as children, Brian Herzog, Brad Herzog (Karin), William Herzog; grandchildren Logan, Tanner, Madi, Hailie, Lily, Brooke, and Joey; siblings, Roger (Irene), Dennis (Betty Lou), Laverne Walker, Lloyd (Susie), Leon (Pat), Kathleen Proulx (Steve), Daryl, Yvonne (Dave) Kosloski, Rick (Kathy); sisters-in-law, Jane Herzog and Shirley Maniak; and brother-in-law, Steve Maniak (JoAnn); along with many nieces and nephews and countless friends. We will remember Dale forever with love, knowing that it was a life well spent. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 13 at 10:30 AM with visitation starting at 9:30 AM at the Church of the Epiphany, 11001 Hanson Blvd. NW, Coon Rapids. Inurnment Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
