Courtney Paul Bednarz

Courtney Paul Bednarz of Brooklyn Park passed away on Wednesday, October 20 after struggling with multiple health issues. Courtney was born on July 18, 1974 to David and Mary Bednarz in Minneapolis, MN. Courtney's love of hockey and fishing started at a very young age. He played in the BPYHA from the age of 5 on. His most enjoyable trips were to the Frozen Four of college hockey. Fishing was his enduring love. His first fishing trip was at 2 years old to Lake of the Woods. This family trip continued for 10 years and never got old. He would spend many weekends throughout the year fishing at Chippewa Lake in Brandon. Even if the fish weren't cooperating, Courtney always came home with beautiful pictures of the lake. Courtney was a hard worker, a soft spoken man, a devoted son who visited his mother at the lake frequently. Playing cards with the whole family at family get togethers was another enjoyment of Courtney's. He made it a point to be up at the lake when his great nieces visited and never tired of hearing, "Uncle Courtney". He was a 1997 graduate of St. Cloud State University. Courtney worked as a Planner II for the city of Brooklyn Park before moving on to the City Planner position at Andover for 13 years. In 2013 Courtney started his career with Verizon, as an independent contractor, then was hired and moved upward to his present position of Sr. Engineering Consultant. One of his greatest challenges and achievements was working closely in setting up Verizon communications for the Super Bowl in 2018. Courtney was preceded in death by his father, David. He is survived by his mother, Mary; brother, Troy (Nickatie) Bednarz; niece, Brittany Kinn; nephew, Christian Bednarz; great nieces: Lily Anne, Macie Mae and Paisley Marie, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, November 4 at Washburn McReavy Funeral Chapel in Coon Rapids with visitation from 4 to 5 PM, service at 5 PM with luncheon following at Coon Rapids VFW Post 9625.
