Chester I Hegstrom DDS

Hegstrom, DDS, Chester I. age 80, of Onamia, MN passed away peacefully on October 24, 2017. He was born on June 15, 1937 in Sandstone, MN to Lulu Ellen and Theodore S. Hegstrom. He was preceded into death by Lulu, Theodore, brother Leo, sisters: Jackie and Jane, and grandson Matthew Kuhel. Grateful for having shared in Chet’s life is his wife, Sharon, children: Mark (Colleen), James, Julie (Frank), grandchildren: Jill and Tommy, Vanessa, Kylie, Carter, Makenna, Joe, Jaclyn (Colin), great-grandchildren: Delaney and Brennan, sisters and brother-in-laws: Jon (Leah), Linda, Debbie (Bill), many nieces and nephews and numerous other relatives and friends. Chet served in the US Navy as a dental corpsman after which he received an honorable discharge in 1959. He graduated with honors from the U of M Dental School in 1967. He had a successful dental practice for 32 years in Edina. During this time he also taught at the dental school, and loved caring for his patients by providing excellent dentistry. He was active in the Minnesota Academy for Gnathological Research, MDA Scientific Annual Sessions, St. Paul Speakers Bureau, International College of Dentists. He started an Investment Club and directed a singing group called the Notables. He loved to sing with Sharon and friends while playing his guitar and a favorite pastime was cribbage. He had an apropos saying for everything. Chet, and Sharon, the light of his life for 54 years, enjoyed many years in Fort Myers Beach, FL as well as on the shores of Mille Lacs Lake where he roamed the area in his beloved golf cart. During his last year he was attended to by the angels of Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Little Falls. We were so blessed with their presence in our lives. Upon his passing, Colleen had a dream. Chet was sitting in the cottage in his favorite chair. She saw him with his arms raised upward. He was singing his heart out, absolutely filled with joy, and his son Mark was hugging him. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorials made in Chet’s name to Crosier Fathers and Brothers (104 Crosier Drive, Onamia, MN 56359). Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church (6820 St. Patrick Lane) in Edina on Thursday, November 2, 2017.
