Charles Melvin Cadwell

Charles M. Cadwell passed away on August 14, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, following a brief illness. Charles was born on February 17, 1948, in Winfield, Kansas, to George Melvin and Marie Louise (Kerr) Cadwell. He graduated from Winfield High School and Ottawa University and later pursued graduate studies at the University of Iowa and Wichita State University. On December 29, 1973, Charles married Nancy Harris, the love of his life and partner of more than 52 years. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, service, and community. They were blessed with one son, Jeffrey (Jennifer), and two cherished granddaughters, Genevieve and Jacqueline. Charles began his professional career as a teacher in Pomona, Kansas, before joining Pizza Hut full-time as a manager. His leadership abilities quickly became apparent as he advanced through a series of management positions in Colby and Hays, Kansas, before becoming an area manager in Columbia, Missouri. He was later transferred to Overland Park, Kansas, and subsequently promoted to Director of Field Training at Pizza Hut headquarters in Wichita. After several years at Pizza Hut, Charles became Director of Training for Popingo Video in Wichita. In 1986, he fulfilled his entrepreneurial ambitions by founding Training Systems +, a consulting firm through which he advised both Fortune 500 companies and smaller businesses. His clients included PepsiCo Foodservice International, Pizza Hut, Frito-Lay, Rent-A-Center, and Burger King International. A gifted teacher and communicator, Charles authored eight nationally published books and self-study courses, co-authored four others, and developed numerous training programs, audio courses, and management curricula published by the American Management Association. In 1977, Charles and Nancy made their home in Mulvane, Kansas, where they became deeply involved in both church and civic life. Charles served in numerous leadership roles within Mulvane United Methodist Church and on district and conference committees of the United Methodist Church. Alongside a group of close friends known as "The Disciples," he spent countless hours helping neighbors with home projects and serving others through mission work. In recognition of those efforts, the group is being honored with the 2026 Mulvane Community Service Award. Charles was also an active member of Lions International, serving through both the Mulvane Lions Club and the Derby Noon Lions Club. Over the years he held numerous leadership positions, including Club President, Zone Chair, District 17-K2 Leadership Chair, LCIF District Chairperson, and Global Membership Training Chairperson. He was equally committed to the future of Mulvane and played an active role in the Revitalize Mulvane campaign, which helped bring significant improvements and new business development to the community. In 2019, Charles and Nancy purchased a share in the Applewood Pointe of Maple Grove at Arbor Lakes Cooperative in Maple Grove, Minnesota, to be closer to their son and his family. After spending summers there beginning in 2020, they decided to make the move permanent in May 2026. They developed many close friendships within their Applewood Pointe community. Charles quickly became involved in community leadership, most recently chairing a committee that supported various community boards. His wisdom, generosity, and leadership were valued by all who worked with him. Throughout his life, Charles was known for his ability to teach, encourage, and lead. Whether mentoring employees, serving his church, helping neighbors, or simply spending time with family and friends, he devoted himself to making life better for those around him. His faith, generosity, sense of service, and commitment to helping others left an enduring impact on every community he touched. Charles was preceded in death by his father, George Melvin Cadwell, and his mother, Marie Louise Cadwell. He is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy; his son, Jeffrey (Jennifer); and his beloved granddaughters, Genevieve and Jacqueline. Services will be announced at a later date.
