Carol Louise Damberg

Age 79, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. She is preceeded in death by parents, Elmer and Elsie Johnson and survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Sheldon W. Damberg; children, Suzanne, Gregory (Julia Perpich), Douglas (Carol Jo Burns); Grandchildren, Niklas, Julianna, Kaarl; siblings, Muriel Friend (Charles), Paul Johnson (Sally), Timothy Johnson (Barbara), Ardell Bloomquist (Dennis); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Carol graduated with a BS in Nursing from the U of MN and was a member of the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society. She served as head nurse at the U of MN Station 201 Heart Hospital (1958-59) and was later a nursing instructor at St. Luke Hospital, Duluth, MN (1959-60). Carol had a deep commitment to supporting the medical community. She was President (1979-80) for the Ramsey County Auxiliary after serving on a variety of committees. Carol was President of the Minnesota Medical Association Auxiliary (1987-88) and served as various program chairs. Carol's passions also included nature, music and serving the local community. She served as a Mendota Heights Parks Commissioner, Chair of the Health Resources Foundation, volunteered at the Dodge Nature Center, served on the Friends of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra Board, and most recently was a member of the SPCO Board. As a mother of three she was constantly involved in community and school activities. Carol was active at church and served as an Elder of the Session for House of Hope Church. Carol was born and raised in Virginia, MN. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law. Carol treasured family, cooking, books, history, travel, dogs, helping others, practical jokes, and spending time at the summer cabin in Ely. Although her stature was diminutive her inner strength and courage were formidable, her compassion for others immense, and her spirit to live and enjoy life contagious. The warm memories she created for so many family and friends is an amazing legacy we will always cherish. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to House of Hope Church, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, or the Minnesota Arboretum. Grateful thanks to United and Abbott Hospital's cardio and neuro staffs, and the Courage Kenny staff, for all their compassionate care. Visitation from 4pm to 8pm on Thursday, April 9 at HOLCOMB-HENRY-BOOM-PURCELL FUNERAL HOME; 515 W. Hwy 96 at Mackubin, Shoreview. Memorial Service will be held at 11:30am on Friday, April 10 at HOUSE OF HOPE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH; 797 Summit Ave., St. Paul, with lunch to follow. Private interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery will precede the Service.
