Bonita "Bonnie" Ascher

Bonita (Bonnie) Ascher (nee Strom) of Brooklyn Park, passed away peacefully at her home on July 2nd, 2026, after a five-year battle with a rare form of cancer. Bonnie was born on May 30th, 1951 to Dennis and Melva Strom in Minneapolis. She graduated from Mora High School and attended Bethel College. She met her soon to be husband Todd Ascher at New Hope Church, and they married on December 30th, 1972. They had three sons: Joel, Jesse, and Troy. She held various clerical roles at different companies throughout her career, ending in retirement from Carlson Companies after many years as an accounting clerk. Bonnie loved being surrounded by family and often gathered them together for holidays and special occasions. Her three grandchildren, Oliver, Owen, and Elise, were especially precious to her, and she enjoyed baking cookies and watching Christmas movies with them. Bonnie had a deep appreciation for nature and the outdoors. She tended her flower gardens and spent time at the Arboretum with her friends. She also loved to watch the birds, especially hummingbirds, at her feeder and often took long walks along the path by her home. Bonnie firmly believed in the good news of Jesus Christ and wished for all those around her to know the Lord's love. She prayed for her children and grandchildren, and other family and friends everyday. Through her journey with cancer, she continued to have faith in the Lord and His plan for her life. After raising their children attending Grace Church (Edina Baptist), Bonnie and Todd returned to New Hope Church where they were active in prayer groups and Sunday school. She treasured the time she spent taking her grandchildren to church and teaching children's Sunday school alongside Todd. Bonnie will be missed greatly by her family and friends. Although we grieve her absence on this earth, we know that she is with her Father in heaven. She is survived by her loving husband, Todd; brother Randy (Sherry) Strom; sons Joel, Jesse (Sam), and Troy (Hetal), and her grandchildren, Oliver, Owen and Elise. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dennis and Melva Strom. Funeral services with their nephew Kyle Strom officiating will be held at New Hope Church on Friday, July 24 at 11:00 AM, with visitation one hour prior. Bonnie always supported Christian ministries so in lieu of flowers her family requests that donations can be made to a ministry she supported such as Compassion International or the Care & Love fund at New Hope Church.
