Ann Marie Rasmusson

Ann was born at home in Sedan, MN and lived in Brooten, Mn during her youth and young adult life. Ann graduated from Brooten High school in 1951. December 15, 1951, was married to Charles Lavern Rasmusson of Sunberg, Mn. They met through a blind date, we later learned in her journal that he had been watching her roller skate. They lived in a few small homes/farms with no electricity with struggles. The family was quickly growing, they moved Mpls, Mn in 1957 for more employment opportunities and housing. July of 1965 Ann found herself being a single parent to 6 children with one more on the way, with no money, gas or help. This time was very very had for Ann but with her very strong love for her children, her determination and her strong faith Ann persevered. In her personal journal she stated that she does not know how she would have done it without the help of Vicky! Ann Decided she wanted and needed to go back to school to better provide for her family and herself. 1974 She enrolled in a 6-month program (OSTC) went 5 days a week, 8 hours a day for the next 6 months. (SHE LOVED LEARNING) Ann, after completing the program, had struggles initially getting hired (in part due to her lack of experience) but didn't quit. 1975, when Ann was 41years old, she started her professional career as a work coordinator for Mpls Housing Re-development Agency. Ann was employed for ~ 28 years and retired from the same organization in 2003. Ann worked full time while raising 7 children on her own. She was an independent, loving, selfless woman who always put others needs before herself and truly the strongest woman we were blessed to call MOM. Ann was a very spiritual woman who believe strongly in her faith. She was a long-standing and very active member of Central Free Church until it closed its doors. She spent many months/ hours organizing and establishing the church library, volunteered in the nursery, was a caterer for many church events and was very well known for her great baking skills! (her overnight buns were famous in our family along with her love of desert) She would take her 2 week vacation from work and go up to camp Shamineau and cook for the kids. It was very important to Ann to expose all of her children to her faith and the love of God. Ann loved to travel and experience new things. She achieved many of her personal goals/dreams. Including her visit to Norway, cruises, special gatherings with her sisters, and nieces, quilting and many, many family trips and adventures. Ann's love of tradition continues on into the next generation. She would take her grandchildren on a day excursion to create birthday memories, a birthday gift, aspecial outing and just spending time with Grandma. She loved baking with her grandchildren, playing endless games and reading many many books. She created many annual events to include christmas ornaments(since 1986) for all her grandchildren that she gave on thanksgiving and has continued up to 2022,( I am sure she already has the ornaments for 2023) Ann moved to the Riverview Apts in 2008, where she enjoyed her much deserved retirement. She had so many beloved friends she met and developed very strong friendships. She spent countless hours reading, doing crossword puzzles, but her favorite thing to do was to spend time with her family. Weather it was one on one or the whole crazy family, that was her happy place!! She loved each and every one of her siblings, nieces, nephews, her children and all of her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She had so much love to give! Ann was an inspirationg to all and will forever be missed by all who were blessed to know her!
