Albert Olson

Olson, Albert L. Age 91 of Coon Rapids, MN, passed away on July 7, 2011. Albert was born March 16, 1920 in Esmond, ND, where he was raised by his mother, Margaret Olson with 4 brothers and 3 sisters. On June 16, 1946, Albert married Elizabeth Ann Johnson in Minneapolis, Minnesota. At his death, Al and Betty had just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. After graduating from high school, Albert joined the Civilian Conservation Corp where he served in Oregon, Washington, and Wisconsin. When World War II broke out, Albert served with the Army Air Corp in North Africa and Italy. Albert was extremely proud of his service to our country, and enjoyed his status as an honored veteran. Following the war, Albert was employed by the U.S. Post Office as a letter carrier, working many years in downtown Minneapolis, until his retirement in 1978. Al and Betty were avid campers, and enjoyed their affiliation with Christian Campers for many years. At the time of his death, Albert was an active member of Coon Rapids Evangelical Free Church. The two most important things to Albert were his family and his faith. He had an enthusiasm for life and took great joy in being with others. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Albert is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; and his five children, Judith Wilson (Kennard) of South Bend, Indiana, Dale Olson (Sandra) of Madison, Wisconsin, Janeth Pfile (Steve) of Freeport, Illinois, Ronald Olson (Linda) of Zionsville, Indiana, and Joyce Kirkeide (Jon) of Oak Grove, Minnesota; twelve grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Henry Olson of WA; and a sister, Doris VanGelder of CA. Albert was preceded in death by his mother, his brothers, Eric, Edwin, and Clarence, and his sisters, Hilma and Clara. Funeral service Tuesday 7/12/11 at 11 AM at Coon Rapids Evangelical Free Church, 2650 128th Avenue Northwest, Coon Rapids, MN. Interment Morningside Cemetery. Visitation 1 hour prior to service at church and also Monday 7/11/11, 4-7 PM at: Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel 763-767-1000 1827 Coon Rapids Blvd.
