William Edwin Bastian

William E. Bastian (Bill) 74, died peacefully on Sunday, July 28 with his family beside him. Bill was the son of Elaine and Harold Bastian. He was born in Kenosha, WI, and lived much of his life with his wife, Linda, and children in Eden Prairie, MN. Bill had a gregarious and magnetic personality and was loved by many people. He left us with many great memories. Although things did not always come easily, Bill persevered with hard work. He had a long and successful career in sales management with Pillsbury and Growing Healthy, finally retiring from E.A. Sween, Deli Express. His career provided many long-lasting friendships. As a self taught hobbyist, Bill engaged us in his current endeavors. He would tackle any project from welding to tractor repair, but had a special love for boating, woodworking, and maple syrup making. We will remember him piloting his boat on Balsam Lake or in his shop creating, fixing, or tinkering. Bill was happy when he was "doing" and was very precise about his process. Bill was a dreamer who centered his life around his family. He was always looking forward to the next family vacation and enthusiastically preparing food to bring us all together. He prioritized keeping his family united in support of each other. Bill is survived by his dance partner and wife, Linda; children Amanda (Jason), Hillary (Brian), Corrie (Amber), Jon (Colleen), and Zack (Shelby); grandchildren Sylvia, Sullivan, Osa, Finley, Rayla, Ike, Colton, Roma, Rita, and Ivy; siblings Bette (Dick), Debbie (Jon), Mary (Gene), and Jane (Ron); and numerous extended family members. Please join us on August 20th for a Funeral Mass at 11AM with a 1-hour visitation beforehand at Pax Christi Catholic Church: 12100 Pioneer Trail, Eden Prairie. A Celebration of Life Gathering will immediately follow from 12PM-3PM at Bearpath Golf Club: 18100 Bearpath Trail, Eden Prairie. Please bring some memories to share. Bill was a 9 year survivor of pancreatic cancer following a pioneering surgery by Dr. Mark Truty at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He also received loving care at the end of his life from Our Lady of Peace Hospice in St Paul, MN. We are forever grateful.
