    Veronica Mae Schmiege

    July 5, 1937 - March 14, 2022

Schmiege, Veronica M. (Thompson) Age 84, passed away peacefully on March 14th at Mercy Hospital surrounded by her loving daughter and grandsons. Survived by daughter, Holly; grandsons, Zachary and Tyler; granddog Ali; Sister Arlene Huntley (Roger) and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by beloved husband Howard; dogs Snuggles, Laci, and Lexi; parents Agnes and Milton Thompson; brother Dennis Thompson; sister and brother-in-law Irene and Lloyd Gerth; brother and sister-in-law Melvin and Jean Thompson; niece Shari Germscheid; son-in-law Timothy Bachman. Vonnie was a kind, gentle person who had an infectious smile. She was kind to everyone she met and was a blessing to all who knew her. In Vonnie's early years she enjoyed watching her husband sing and play guitar in his band with her family and friends. She enjoyed spending time at her family's cabin snowmobiling, boating and she especially enjoyed the annual pig roast parties. Vonnie loved traveling and was fortunate enough to see a lot of different countries with her husband, daughter, sister and brother-in-law. She loved animals especially her dogs Snuggles and Laci. When Vonnie was not traveling she enjoyed eating the fabulous food her late executive chef son-in-law would prepare. Later in life she liked watching her grandsons in every sport/activity they participated in. She went to every game to cheer them on. Her grandsons were her whole world. When she couldn't watch her grandsons, she would cheer on her favorite team the Minnesota Wild. The family will be forever grateful to all the caregivers on unit 4Heart at Mercy Hospital for providing extraordinarily compassionate care. A memorial gathering to celebrate Vonnie's life will be held on Sunday, May 15th from 2pm till 5pm at Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel, 1827 Coon Rapids Blvd. NW, Coon Rapids.
