Thelma Ardell Hardman Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

We, the family of Thelma Hardman, are very sorry to announce her passing away on July 12, 2022. Thelma was born Thelma Ardele Ellen Estlund on October 27, 1936, with her twin sister Emily to her parents Bertil John Estlund and Ellen Viola Estlund (Maki). Three months after their birth, Ellen passed away from tuberculosis. She was raised by her Aunt Hilda and Uncle Fritz in Cloquet, MN until her father graduated from college and remarried to Elvera Jacobson when they were five. The twins moved to Minneapolis and soon welcomed sister Mary, brother Charles and brother Edward. Thelma grew up in South Minneapolis and went to Cooper grade school, Sanford Jr. High and Minnehaha Academy. This is where she enjoyed being a cheerleader and found a love for singing. She attended Bethlehem Covenant Church. She married Raymond Anderson and together they had six children, Susie, Lenore, Danny, Sharon, Dickie and Leanne while they lived in South Minneapolis. Thelma met Doug Hardman who turned out to be the love of her life. They married and lived with four of the children in South Minneapolis. Mark Hardman became her stepson from Doug's previous marriage. They loved visiting Doug's parents Ardy and Lawrence every Friday night. Thelma and Doug were a very loving couple and were loved by all their family. They brought the kids fishing, to drive-in movies, to the State Fair and family fun in the pool. Thelma thoroughly loved being with her family. When the kids grew up and were out of the house, they loved to go to Florida in January every year to visit Doug's Uncle Bobby and his wife Roma Lee. Many of the children and grandchildren would visit Florida to spend some fun in the sun with them. Doug passed away June 20, 2006. There was a wonderful service for him at their church Hope Lutheran. Thelma had to adjust to life after losing Doug. She loved being part of the Crosstown Covenant church bible study group. She spent time with her friends and family continuing to be a loving mother and grandmother. Thelma was a wonderful grandmother to her grandchildren Rosie LindbergLakso daughter of Wayne Lakso and stepmom Sue Lakso, Ben Anderson (Kate) son of Lenore Anderson, Matthew and James Anderson sons of Dan and Katie Anderson, Randy Hardman (Christine) son of Mark Hardman, Mollie and Marty Anderson children of Richard and Alyson Anderson, Madison Asher born to Sharon and Mel Thelen adopted by Crystal and Wade Asher, and finally, Sara, Paige and Tina Press daughters of Leanne and Tim Press. She also had great grandchildren Prince and Isis Faulk (Rosie and Will) as well as Hazel Hardman (Randy and Christine) and became a surrogate grandmother to Crystal and Wades other five children Kailee, Cody, Tristan, Teagan and Jaisa. Seven years ago, Sue moved to Savannah, Georgia and Thelma would visit for a couple months every winter until the last couple of years. She enjoyed seeing the sights and going out to eat. She especially enjoyed sitting with Rocky the dachshund on the couch watching TV. In the summer she would visit their cabin for some fishing and relaxation. Six years ago, Thelma sold her house and was invited by Leanne and Tim to stay at their house. She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters who were graduating from High School and going on to further their education and college. The girls adored her, and she adored them alongside their boyfriends. Thelma loved sitting out on the deck watching the birds, bunny rabbits and socializing with Leanne's family and friends. All of the family was able to see Thelma in the last weeks of her life. Her brother Charles Estlund, his wife Debby and sister Mary Harrer, children and grandchildren, her twin sister Emily's children and special friends helped her to pass over with as much love as they could give. She continued to love the support family and friends could give her in those final moments. The family would like to thank Our Lady of Peace hospice for their loving care to Thelma in her final weeks and days. First helping Leanne with hospice in her home continuing for the last days at their hospice facility. They were very caring and compassionate, and we are truly grateful.
