Susan Mary Mundale
March 16, 1939 - January 30, 2022
Mundale, Susan M. (nee Wadd) died peacefully - enveloped in love, surrounded by her children - on Jan. 30, at the age of 82. Before the term "glass ceiling" existed, Susan shattered expectations and was a pioneer for women of her generation. She was raised in Janesville, Minn., the oldest child of the town doctor, and received her bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota and a masters' degree from Mankato State University. Susan and her second husband Charlie moved from southern Minnesota to the Twin Cities in 1976, where she earned a second masters' degree, founded two communication firms and chronicled the histories of some of Minnesota's best-known entrepreneurs and businesses. Honoring the priceless value of education, Susan chaired the board of trustees at the College of Saint Benedict and, in retirement, was board president at the University of Minnesota's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. Diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2015, Susan continued to beat the odds, living a robust life filled with friends and family; words, music and ideas. We grieve her loss but rejoice that Susan is reunited with her beloved Charlie. In addition to siblings Wallace (Jeanne) and Audrey (Bill), Susan is survived by her son Clifford Jones (Kathy), daughters Mary Jones (Dominic Papatola) and Helen Butler (Kip); step-children Peter (Pam) and Ann; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grand-children. Susan's family wishes to thank Dr. Joseph Leach as well as the caregivers from Heartland Hospice. A memorial service will take place this summer. Remembrances may be sent to [email protected]; memorials preferred to the University of Minnesota's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.
