Shirley Phyllis Gerdin

Shirley Gerdin (Gabrielson) went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 20, 2025 at the age of 92. Shirley was born January 7, 1933, in Maple Ridge Township, Stanchfield, MN to Archie and Hazel Gabrielson. She attended Braham High School and the Minnesota School of Business. She worked in accounting and human resources all of her career. Shirley was married to Allen Gerdin on March 28, 1953, in Stanchfield, MN. She loved baking and cooking, especially her beautifully decorated Christmas bread rings and her delicious caramel rolls. As an eight grade 4-H student she demonstrated baking bread at the Minnesota State Fair; and being an over achiever, she also showed her 4-H prized Brown Swiss calf that same year, a love for farming from her dad Archie. Shirley and Allen enjoyed entertaining and hosted guests in their home nearly every week; to celebrate a birthday or an anniversary, welcome new people who attended their church, or to be together with family and friends. Volunteering was a major part of her life both during her working days and after retirement. She volunteered at North Memorial Hospital, the Women's ministries at Brooklyn Center Baptist Church and Wooddale Church, the American Swedish Institute Male Chorus Auxiliary and taught Sunday School. She began the formation of the Bibles for Missions Thrift Center as member of the board of directors and remained on the board for seventeen years, until she had to retire for health reasons. She did record keeping, bookkeeping, cashiering, organizing annual picnics and banquets. Each week she would be involved from 15 to 35 hour to help the Thrift Center succeed. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Allen, her daughter Marcia and son-in-law Ronald Jancewicz; step-grandson Paul Jancewicz; sister-in-law Iris Christensen and brother-in-law John Gerdin; 3 step-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Archie and Hazel Gabrielson and her sister LaVerne (Busy) Vogel. Memorial Service will be held Monday, December 1, at 11am at Christ Presbyterian Church, 6901 Normandale Road, Edina, MN. Interment was at the Stanchfield Baptist Cemetery, Stanchfield MN.
