Ronald John Schmidt Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Ronald (Ron) J. Schmidt age 83 passed away unexpectedly in their family home on July 8, 2022. Ron was born to Paul and Vera Schmidt of Remsen, Iowa - the youngest of five siblings. Ron attended Remsen Catholic School where he was an outstanding student and played basketball. Following high school, he attended Iowa State University in Ames earning a B.S. in industrial engineering. During his college years, Ron also met the love of his life - Lois Jean Harder. The couple married on April 14, 1963, in Marcus, Iowa and moved to the Twin Cities. Ron's distinguished career included working with Boeing's defense operations followed by 35 years with Honeywell where he retired as national director of field operations for the company's Building Services Division. During that time, Ron also served as an Air National Guard Lieutenant. When not working, Ron would be boating, fishing, playing bridge, tennis or golf with friends and family. During his retirement years Ron and Jean pursued a love for travel, visiting every continent and building cherished memories. Ron also drove tour buses for Richfield Bus Company for almost 20 years. Throughout his life, Ron loved to serve others: As a member of the Airport Lions Club, he drove visually-impaired individuals to a monthly dinner hosted by his club. He also served with the Knights of Columbus. Ron was the family's go-to handyman - always eager to help someone build a deck or install new brake pads. Regardless of the project, Ron's fee was always the same: Lunch at a favorite restaurant. He is survived by his wife Jean, daughters Terri (Gary) Teagarden, Kim Rudrud, and Stacy Jorgensen; grandchildren Ryan Tjaden (Emily), Kori Groshek (Kolby), Dillon, Brady and Spencer Rudrud, Chase, Abigal and Lillian Jorgensen; great-grandchildren Vincent, Amelia and Katherine Groshek, Howard Tjaden. Join us to celebrate Ron's life on Friday, July 15, 2022 at St. Edwards Catholic Church, 9401 Nesbitt Ave. So., Bloomington. Visitation from 10-11 am, Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am.
