Robert Kuphal

Kuphal, Robert M. of Edina, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 6, while his family gathered around his bedside. He was born on September 27, 1914, the son of Ida Mae and Edward Kuphal of Minneapolis. He married Mary Eva Pettis on May 5, 1939. Robert was a devoted and exceptional husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend to his 6 children, 20 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He and his wife of 67 years were foster parents to over 25 infants. Robert was a graduate of Washburn High School and graduated from the U of MN with a Mechanical Engineering degree. He held engineering positions at several companies across the US. An inventor and builder, Robert developed new systems, models and techniques. An entrepreneur, he was president of his own company, Ackron Building and Supply in Minneapolis. Robert worked as a Division engineer for the City of Minneapolis in Air Pollution Control and Space Management until his retirement in June, 1980. He was a proficient mechanic, craftsman and photographer. He was always inventing, improving, repairing or building just about anything he chose to, expertly working on machinery, cars, boats, engines, telescopes, appliances, and children's toys. Bob professionally photographed buildings for the Adolfson & Peterson Co. and other Minnesota builders. With his Hasselblads and Canons, he photographed and developed countless outstanding photos of family, friends, events and everything else he found of interest. He also had a profound love for classical music. Above all, Bob loved his family. His wife, children and their families came first and he was 'always there' to hold a baby, make the oatmeal, tie up a boat, fix a car or just listen. Robert was preceded in death by wife Mary; siblings, Edward, Jean Froman and Jo Pedersen; and infant grandson, Michael. Survived by children, Robert (Grace) of Livonia, MI, James (Sally) of Mishawaka, IN, Kathy Horton of Westport, CT, John (Linda) of Fishkill, NY, Elizabeth (George) Townsend of Fergus Falls, MN and Kristine (Robert) Dickey of Edina, MN. Memorials: New Life Family Services, Affiliate Ministry of the Greater MN Assoc. of Evangelicals (GMAE), 720 Washington Ave. SE, Ste. 10, Mpls, MN 55414. Interment Lakewood Cemetery. Funeral service 11 AM Monday, May 18 at Wooddale Church, 6630 Shady Oak Road, Eden Prairie with visitation one hour prior to service and 5-8 PM Sunday at: Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel 952-920-3996 West 50th St. at Hwy 100
