Milton Francis Selander

August 14, 1943 - April 21, 2022

Selander, Milton F. "Butch" age 78, died on April 21, 2022 in Robbinsdale, MN. Butch graduated from St. Michael High School in 1961. He briefly attended the University of Minnesota before enlisting in the United States Air Force from 1963-1967, with time in Vietnam from 1966-1967. Later on, Butch settled in Brooklyn Center, MN, where he served for 25 years with the Brooklyn Center Fire Department. He spent many years as a fire inspector, and retired as Captain. Also, Butch spent over 20 years with Hennepin County Medical Center as an ambulance dispatcher/EMT. He retired from HCMC in August 2007, the week of the I-35 Bridge collapse. Upon retirement, Butch spent his time gardening and doing renovations around his house, which he loved very much. He was a good neighbor that could always be counted on to lend a tool or help his older neighbors shovel their driveways. Butch also spent this time helping his youngest daughter, Becky, launch her academic career at the University of Minnesota, and made many trips to see his eldest daughter, Nikki, in Iowa. He loved watching his two grandsons play football and enjoyed spending time with his favorite dog, Dexter. Butch is survived by two daughters, Nikki (Paul) Heyd of Marion, IA; Becky (Gerardo Alarcon Rivas) Selander of St. Paul, MN, a brother Bob (Joyce) Selander of Highland, CA; sisters Judith (Ed) Chmielewski of Columbia, MO; and Judy (Jim) Gilbert of Freedom, SD.; grandsons Garrett (Shannon Kuehl) Heyd of Davenport, IA; and Airman First Class Darren Heyd, USAF. He was preceded in death by his mother Marie, a brother, Milton Jr.; sisters Ruth- Catherine and Joyce. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
